http://www.cbssports.com/nba/blog/ke...-trade-request

Quote:
Among the teams that would appeal to Smith are Dallas, Houston and Memphis, a league source told CBSSports.com. The Grizzlies, in the midst of establishing the value of Rudy Gay on the trade market in the face of massive luxury tax bills on the horizon, are not among the teams that have spoken with the Hawks about Smith, one of the sources said. Despite owner Mark Cuban's comment this week that "the bank of Cuban is open," the Mavs also have not yet expressed interest in trading for Smith, another source said.

Rockets GM Daryl Morey said on Twitter this week that Houston would be "likely more stable than in the past" as the Feb. 21 trade deadline approaches.

The Hawks have more than enough cap room to re-sign Smith and add pieces around him. If they let him walk as a free agent, Atlanta would have a league-high $36 million in cap room. But what would they spend it on? Re-signing a 27-year-old borderline All-Star to a max deal might wind up being Ferry's best move, provided he can sell Smith on a vision for the future and how the team will use the remaining flexibility to get better.
It is good that high level assets around the NBA are beginning to see HOU as a good situation. More evidence that the team should not throw away its upcoming cap room too easily.

Smith said waaay back in 09 that hakeem was one of his favorite players all time, and didn't mind playing for houston many times before.

I think he would be a good fit actually, if we can reign him in somehow...

Yeah, I'm glad he was on board before we got... better.

Hopefully we can attract more high profile players with Harden becoming a star in the making.

Rockets among teams that don't find Josh Smith appealing.

Smith has "always" been interested in the Rockets.

He is not the answer unless Rockets want to build Houston Hawks.

Smith seems inefficient, but I trust Morey to evaluate his worth accurately.

I get the sense Cousins would like to play here

He is very dynamic, a good shot-blocker and decent passer. But he doesn't seem like the smartest guy - and he would make us the worst free-throw shooting team in the league, together with Asik.

Certainly an upgrade over Patterson and Morris, but probably at too much of a cost, as he would not put us over the top.

Lin's assist would go up by like 5 per game playing with Smith.

Thread topic made it sound like Josh smith said he was appealed by us. That was strictly the writer playing armchair gm

But perhaps Daryl Morey’s greatest move was when Daryl Morey locked up Daryl Morey to a long-term extension before Daryl Morey got Dwight Howard. Typical buy low Daryl Morey move and now Daryl Morey is stuck on a below market deal.

Jason Friedman observed recently that the best fit for us would be a pick-and-pop big who can hit the 3-pointer at a high efficiency (e.g. a Ryan Anderson). Alternatively, a strong pick-and-roll finisher would be a good add (maybe Gortat would make sense in this role).

Does Josh Smith fit in well as a pick-and-pop or pick-and-roll guy?
