As has been pointed out, Black is the backup center. Dwight was in foul trouble the first 2 games (with a total of 11 fouls). Howard only played 21 minutes the first game and 32 minutes the second. Because of that Black was on the floor for 40 minutes. As far as Daniels, it's exactly what has been stated. Daniels is a great shooter but he's completely one dimensional. He can shoot open 3 point shots but doesn't do anything else. He's not a good defender, he doesn't pass well, can't create his own shot and he can't put the ball on the floor and drive. Terry offers more consistency and can contribute in ways that Daniels can't (Passing and leadership). The only reason that Garcia is getting PT is because our backup SF is having to play PF due to Jones injury.
I was screaming for McHale to play him and thought he was more than a one trick pony, but every single minute he's got, he's wasted by rushing threes and not doing much else. Garcia is a playing a lot better defense than people give him credit for. The only thing bothering me is that he's actively looking for his shot whereas last year he would get them in the flow of the offense. If he stops doing that, we're solid.
He does need to expand his game, but more than anything else, he needs to be hitting his threes, and he isn't. If Daniels consistently hit his treys at 38-40%, regardless of when he's put into the game, or how many minutes he plays, McHale would find minutes for him, in my opinion. And Daniels is quite capable of hitting threes at that kind of a clip. It's early, and I still harbor hopes for the guy, but that's why he's here and not with the Vipers. Time for Troy to lose the "deer in the headlights" look he's had far too often, if he wants to stick. Otherwise, he'll be back in the Valley developing his game. If we weren't so short handed, that's probably where he'd be today.
Well that's probably because the minutes he gets are mostly garbage time, which isn't going to have the same offensive intensity nor afford him the same spot up opportunities he would normally wait for. He just accumulated bad stats a handful of meaningless minutes at a time by taking whatever shot opportunity he gets. When he has been part of the rotation and when the minutes have mattered hes been very good offensively. Defensively he isn't as bad as people seem to think he is, but he isn't good either. When he does get beat he tends to foul and that doesn't help either. However, the main thing keeping him off the floor is Terry who has played very well. Hopefully they are using this time to make Daniels his understudy.
There's a reason why he got no better offers than ours when he became a FA. He may become a better player in the future, but right now he's not a rotation player. The Rockets are 12-3 despite a rash of injuries. So clearly we are playing the right players.
McHale has always seemed fair in handing out PT. He developed Parsons, Jones and D-Mo exceptionally well. Canaan also. Fans just don't like it when their favorite player does not get "enough" PT. They need to step aside and let the professionals do their job. That is what is going to happen anyway.
This again? Harden, TJ, Dmo, Papa, Canaan, Black and CP last year are all relatively the same age as Troy. This myth never dies.
Honestly, all he did was not grow a few more inches. his shot has to be falling in order to warrant playing time. Garcia gets that nod because he can guard bigger players
I disagree. Posters on forums know more than our coaching staff. Poster X has thousands of posts while our coaching staff has zero. Posters have mind reading capabilities to add to their ability to accurately predict the future. Sorry man, you lose this argument.
I think the question those of you hoping for more Daniels playing time need to ask yourselves is this: "What does Daniels do?" No seriously. Come up with a list of things he does better than the guys already in the rotation and lets compare.
Daniels hasnt come in and really shot the ball lights out...even in garbage time. There is really no reason for Daniels to be off the bench in crunch time minutes...but its starting to look like we will see him tonight though
people talk about troy's misses, what about garcia. why cant mchale draw up plays for troy to get loose like doc rivers does for redick
