I don't see Harden coming in here to play the role CP3 did for either OKC or PHX. My personal belief is he wants to hide from criticism, go out after games and party, and still be looked up to by his fans. He isn't going to teach the young guys how to rotate on defense or how to play with urgency and maximize possessions or all the little stuff CP3 does. Harden is one of the greatest players of all time and I'm glad he played here. But, he wasn't exactly the brand of basketball that leads to championships or the vet leader kind of guy I'd want to have our young guys around. I do think we have a choice. Our two brightest future stars are 19 and 20. Will they truly grow with Harden playing an iso-centric style of basketball with zero off ball movement (I know, KPJ says hi)? I do believe Smith will get more open 3 looks and improve his 3 point %, but will also become dependent on Harden. That's OK if we plan to build around Harden. But, we aren't. I know we don't have our picks after this year and I don't advocate having a losing season next year either. There's zero point to having a tank mentality at the start of next season. What I am advocating is this: do not get desperate and commit a max contract to players past their prime. Become the growing team players want to go to, not the team desperate to overpay for declining stars. By the way, I'm not 100% opposed to bringing in Harden, I just am not jumping for joy at the thought of bringing in Harden at a max contract.
Since we don’t control our pick next year, it would be a good move to bring in a hall of fame pg for the right price and try to at least get the young core some playoff experience
I guess the problem is....who really wants to come here in FA. We havent proven ourselves yet. But yea...the injury/age concerns are there. If we get Wembaya though.....I mean...I def do want Harden here then idk...lmao.
“Harden is better than KPJ.” “KPJ is better than Nix.” Wow, some low bars there! Thanks for clearing that up! Rockets options aren’t Harden or bust, KPJ or bust, Nix or bust or all of the above or bust. “You better give Harden his max or else we stick with KPJ!” “You better stick with KPJ or else it’s Nix!” “If you don’t want Harden, you clearly LOVE KPJ!” No. No. No. Kyrie Irving James Harden Fred VanVleet D'Angelo Russell Reggie Jackson Tre Jones Russell Westbrook Derrick Rose Coby White Kemba Walker John Wall Ish Smith George Hill Goran Dragic Cory Joseph Patrick Beverley Austin Rivers Dennis Schroder That’s just potentially the free agent market. Trades? I could see the biggest proponents of those wanting to re-acquire Harden later kill Tilman/the Rockets for doing it. Say….similar to Chris Paul. “Yes! Yes! Absolutely bring Harden back! Houston legend™ and better than KPJ!” [2/3 years from now] Why did Tilman bring Harden back?! Now we’re stuck with this dude/this contract! Jalen/or/Jabari is discontent! We’re hovering around the 8th seed! No one is touching this contract. Stupid ass Tilman!” Spoiler I’Ve AlWayS LoVed ChRiS PaUl! AnD hIs CoNtRacT! Glad we have so many bootlickers looking out for Tilman’s $. No free agent worth anything wants to come to Houston. Either you overpay an actual All-Star in Harden, overpay nothings like Theis/Nwaba/Tate/whoever, or let Tilman trot out a minimum salary roster to another 15 win season.
If you overpay Harden, how you going to pay Jalen, Jabari, and Sengun when they are due for extensions?
Did Harden help any Rockets come to be close to an all-star when he played here? Capella never came close to that, so who? Secondly, many point out Harden's offensive stats as the reason to take him back. Sure, but how has he performed on defense, the area where these young Rockets are most deficient?
I think if Harden comes back, we are going to be on the same page (for awhile). Either he is content with the slow re-build or we try to liquidate assets to add vets to Harden and whatever young players we deem keepers. Id have to think you take Wemby no matter what BUT the #1 or #2 has crazy trade value this summer. What would the #1 bring in trade?
If we aren't gonna draft a point guard, u sign one of the best playmaker in harden if possible. Watching another season of kpj at that role is just wasting everybody's time.
