But you have to wonder, if Howard doesn't even want to be here (according to the article, he only opted in because he didn't want to be traded to Houston), what's the point of trading for him anyway? How do you know if he would give max effort if he was indeed traded here?

If you trade for Howard in the offseason it could lure Deron Williams to Houston. Deron would now have a choice: Play with Dirk or Dwight?

That's only speculation.

Besides, people's attitudes and minds changes.

If Dwight ends up here and is romping for a top 3 seed, will he look at his contract extension differently?

If you trade for him before free agency, Rockets become frontrunners for Deron Williams imo, and a resigned Howard.
