Every single year we have a surprise opening. I think the Houston Texans are that surprise. Bill O'Brien, ownership, GM just not a great fit there. If they lose in the playoffs early on, I think Bill O'Brien will end up being out and hottest head coaching candidate on the market. ________________________ http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/01/01/glazer-could-bill-obrien-be-the-surprise-firing/ At a time when everyone in the media is trying to identify this year’s Lovie Smith before it happens (and the media possibly already has done that by sniffing out the potential resignation of Gary Kubiak), Jay Glazer of FOX suggests that this year’s surprise firing could be Bill O’Brien in Houston. Much depends on how far the Texans progress in the postseason, obviously. If they go early, a change could be more likely. Glazer says the two sides have never really meshed in Houston. Still, O’Brien has had success despite having holes on the roster. As John McClain of the Houston Chronicle explained this week on PFT Live, blame for the decision to sign quarterback Brock Osweiler falls to O’Brien and G.M. Rick Smith jointly. If O’Brien goes and Smith stays, Smith’s tenure would extend to a third head coach. Which would raise some eyebrows. O’Brien’s unexpected arrival into the coaching market would raise eyebrows, too. He potentially would rocket to the top of the list of available coaches — if he ends up being available before the jobs fill up.
If the Texans are embarrassed in the playoffs the same way they were embarrassed last year, then yes, I would say it's a possibility.
I don't think it will happen. He swept the Colts, win a division. The problem for this season is the offense was pitiful, it was either Osweiller, or the playcalling.
We all knew if Brock didn't work out, OB or Rick Smith would be on the hot seat. Looks like OB will be taking the bullet.
It can be both actually. The answer to the question "who picked osweiler" should cost someone a job unless it was McNair.
This should happen short of the Texans reaching the AFC championship game. Have not been impressed at all by O'Brien since he's been here and don't think he has what it takes to take this team anywhere near contention. I really think because of the Brock fiasco alone that O'Brien and Smith need to be let go.
Not a f***ing chance. McNair has said in the past that he wanted to emulate the Steelers and how they remain patient and steady. He's not going to fire O'Brien after 3 winning seasons and 2 AFC South titles. Certainly not with the amount of injuries he had to deal with this season and still going (hopefully) undefeated in the division.
It is ridiculous, but there's always a WTF surprise firing every year. We shall see. If this happens and Rick Smith is still around, we are truly ****ed.
Today's game is the latest example of how incompetent butt chin is. Exposing your starting QB on a sneak in a meaningless game. **** him.
It's ridiculous. How is Bill O'Brien's fault? Osweiler pass inaccuracy and inconsistently were the problem. It is not O'Brien's fault. He is really a good coach and I like him.
How do we get out of this while keeping BOB and dumping Godsey? The nepotism is so strong in this league.
