Hard to say how a Hillary Presidency would make a difference. A pandemic in 2020 would likely mean that the Republicans would be hard against all potential Hillary political wins in an election year, like getting the pandemic under control. Biden has deeper relations with Congress than Hillary (or Trump). He might have been able to get Democratic and Republican Congressional leaders to stand together in the pandemic fight, making it a win-win for both sides in an election year. There are too many burn-it-all-down Republicans to be sure though.
Repubs likely would have impeached Hillary on something over the last 4 years, likely would have kept their advantage in the House in 2018 and would be destroying her over COVID at this point in time (even if the numbers were better). There's almost no way she wins in 2020 and the Repubs would be in much better position to screw us all over than they were in 2016. Honestly, best thing to ever happen to the left and the Dems is Hillary losing. 4 years of Trump followed by a likely long-run leading the country...I suspect many will be like me and have a tough time voting Republican ever again after the shitshow that's happened these past 4 years.
There were several Congressional Republicans saying they would start impeachment hearings the day Clinton took office if she won. I can see how Trump winning might've given a shot to the Left in terms that it fired up the electorate to take the House. That said Democrats didn't take the Senate and this election is far from guaranteed. In terms that Trump has exposed some of the worst on the Right that could be helpful but consider how much he has done particularly regarding courts that will take decades for the Left to reverse and depending on political fortunes might never reverse. Remember in 2012 many were saying that the Democrats were saying that it would be very hard for Republicans given that the Democrats had built a wall of Midwest blue states with Western states. We saw that wall crack enough in 2016. While I think demographics are against Republicans in the long run as is there is no telling who might be the candidates in 2024 or 2028 that might change things.
Not for me. Not Ivanka, not Trump JR ( hopefully prison will prevent that anyway), not Ted Cruz or Paxton or Crenshaw or any other GOP loyalist will get my vote in at least a decade, if ever again.
I strongly disagree with that. trump "winning" was an absolute disaster for the country, the entire country. People on the Left, progressives, moderates, conservatives, including those too ignorant on the right to realize it. trump was and is a catastrophe. Ms Clinton, love her, hate her, or indifferent, would have been a vastly better president than trump. As @rocketsjudoka pointed out, the "judge factory" in operation by McConnell and trump will take an enormous amount of time to rectify. The tens and tens of thousands of Americans who lost their lives, and the vastly larger number hospitalized who have damaged health, possibly for life, because of trump's deliberate hiding of the facts about COVID-19, proven by his own words, would have been far fewer in number had Ms Clinton been in office. I could go on at length, but have done that already in this forum often enough. No, I don't buy that argument at all. The demonization of Ms Clinton is one of the great "success" stories of the Republican Party.
That's what some people say, but that's only because they believe in Covid. These ralliers know the truth, and what they are fighting for is the real economy and not this made-up BS about public health cost.
I wish the "real economy" is better. Stocks will take a tumble, what happens then? Eat gold leaflets and apocalypse seeds?
No, it was sarcasm. These hardcore Trumpers will never be convinced they're doing something damaging to themselves and their nation, until they or someone very close to them start dying from Covid. And maybe not even then.
not a terrible idea can you imagine all the karens complaining Anti-Maskers Forced to Dig Graves for Covid-19 Victims in Indonesia https://gizmodo.com/anti-maskers-forced-to-dig-graves-for-covid-19-victims-1845046526
US, Sweden, UK, Canada is recovering slower than Japan, Germany, Francy, Italy, Spain, Norway. I wouldn't be surprised that after all this is over, the cause for the pandemic's economic downfall and rate of recovery is primarily how successfully a state, region, nation handle the virus. We do have 1918 pandemic data that showed this in the US. And no one should be surprised that the conclusion is that the US could have a better economic recovery with much less infected and death. ps. Norway and Sweden are neighbors. Sweden didn't lock down with much less restriction than Norway. Economic activity is stabilizing across most advanced economies, though still far below pre-Covid levels, according to Bloomberg Economics gauges that integrate high-frequency data such as credit-card use, travel and location information. Norway, Germany and Japan remain at the forefront of the recovery. After a temporary downturn in France, Italy, and Spain on concern about fresh outbreaks, activity there has increased in the past two weeks. Sweden has recently joined the group of the laggards -- the U.S., U.K., and Canada.
