2020 Hurricane Season

Looks like Houston escaped. I don't think y'all even got rain, did you? Wind isn't bad, either, from the looks of it. Beaumont looks like they got a lot of wind, though (?). The damage looks somewhat centrally-located around the core of the hurricane, hopefully.

 

No rain out in Katy. We could have used some, just not 50 inches. That's what she said.

I woke at 5AM and never heard any wind last night. Whew, we got lucky this time. Not even windy this morning in Houston. I wasn't even expecting a paper delivery today, but there it was.

Laura
Hurricane Laura is located as of 4 am CDT about 30 miles NNW of Lake Charles. The eyewall is starting to move into the city of DeRidder, Louisiana. It is moving to the north near 16 mph. This motion should continue through the remainder of the morning. Thereafter, a turn more to the northeast is expected. We estimate that the winds are 125 mph as of 4 AM CDT. Rapid weakening is now expected. However, it could remain a hurricane until it passes Shreveport. Please see our latest advisory on your Stormgeo web portal for more information.

Other Disturbances / Areas to Watch
Disturbance 36 has formed along 44W, or about 1075 miles ESE of Barbados. It is moving to the west near 12 mph. This will take the system into the Windward Islands by early next week. The disturbance consists of a large area of disorganized showers and storms. Environmental conditions are marginal for development. There is a 20 percent chance of development within the next 7 days.

Disturbance 35 is located along 20W, or about 300 miles east of the Cabo Verde Islands. The system is moving to the west near 10 mph. Conditions may become more favorable for development as the system approaches the northern leeward Islands in about a week. There remains a 35 percent chance of tropical development.

 

When they're that tight, takes a while to loosen up completely.

 

When there's a sufficient huge, unsurvivable surge of liquid, any large object can fit.
