    Active Systems

    Eta
Tropical Storm Eta is moving into the southeastern Gulf of Mexico this morning. It is bringing squalls and periods of tropical storm force winds to South Florida. The threat of tropical storm force winds will decrease today over South Florida as the system moves away. The storm may track near far western Cuba as a hurricane by Tuesday. Beyond then, a turn to the north and northeast is expected. However, there is a high degree of uncertainty in the forecast.

Eta is not expected to significantly impact the northwestern Gulf of Mexico.

Other Disturbances / Areas to Watch
Disturbance 63 is along 60W. It is moving west near 15 mph. The disturbance may encounter an increasingly favorable environment as it tracks through the central and western Caribbean later this week. There is a lot of uncertainty regarding the long range track and organization of the system. However, we do think the chance of development is increasing. The chance of development is 50 percent over the next 7 days.

Disturbance 62 is a non-tropical low near 44W, 30N. It is expected to continue moving quickly to the east to east-northeast over the next several days. It has a good chance of at least acquiring some tropical characteristics and we think the chance of tropical or subtropical development is increasing. It is not a significant threat to land. The chance of development is 70 percent.

Headed pretty much for the same landfall as Eta, but will then hook slightly south. Those poor (in all senses) people are going to be set back decades as far as infrastructure. The flooding, the deaths. And so late in the season.

Maybe the NBA season confused the hurricanes' season.

Incredible to see a Cat 5 hurricane this late in the season and making landfall...
