One underrated aspect of this deal is that you are basically paying for the President of the CBA and owner of Team CP3. He will be instrumental into making introductions to all younger players who see him as a mentor, shouting about how amazing the organization is, how loyal it is (paid him!) and will be most likely the 3rd biggest factor (outside of Morey and Tilman) that will shape this roster for the next 4 years. His power in the NBA is strong and he will do everything in his power to win a chip here in the next 4 years, so I'm expecting some talent to follow through when we can clear some cap space.
Ariza is not a coward then because he bailed on the Rockets to get paid. He didn't even wait for the Rockets situation to resolve, he took the first plane out of Houston. I would take Coward who will likely take less money to be here. I'm sure CP3 and Harden would sign off on it.
Him playing even 2/3 isn't enough for that salary, especially if the odds are against him not straining a hamstring or having a sore knee through a playoff stretch. He only played 1 stretch of over a month all year without missing games. So, the odds are about 8 to 1 of him staying healthy through the playoffs next year but we put all our money on that not happening. We saw how we did without him.
What are the terms from year to year? Could Rockets actually backload the deal? 15/15/65/65 or 20/20/60/60?
I like the deal. Sucks that he is just an injury risk but it is what it is. We were sooooo close. We have to run it back. I remember early in the season thinking that if we had CP3 for 5 years and he was healthy for 3 playoff runs then I would take it. I think we need to sit him towards the end of the season (last 5-10 games) and essentially be good enough to let him work his way into shape in the 1st round. Also, 30 min max a game in regular season and 35 or so in the playoffs. I still love the player and endorse the investment.
Durant likes wins, cp3 likes money. Is there any chance we have 36 million cap room to sign Durant next season?
There is a strong chance the Rockets win a championship by the time CP3's contract is up. An obvious move by the Rockets to give him what he wants.
