Trade buzz as deadline approaches Mark Stein / ESPN / Feb 16, 2009 Our freshest non-Amare scenario: Sources say Oklahoma City is going after New Orleans center Tyson Chandler, with the Hornets known to be seriously interested in slicing payroll and with the Thunder capable of offering the Hornets two replacement big men with expiring contracts (Joe Smith and Chris Wilcox) as well as one of its five first-round picks in the next two drafts. You'd like to think that the Hornets would first try to get through this season, see how far they go in the postseason and then shop Chandler closer to the draft if moving him remains their best money-saving option, since trading their interior defensive anchor -- in spite of Chandler's struggles this season -- would force us to reevaluate New Orleans' status as a contender. Yet it remains to be seen whether the Hornets can pass up such a payroll-friendly proposal. Word is he remains very much available if the right deal presents itself. ------------------------------- I personally don't want to trade Artest, but I don't know what the Rocket's staff knows, so will have to trust their grasp of the situation. If we DO have to trade Artest, I don't want Stoudamire, Carter, Miller or others most have mentioned are possibilities. They all would be defensive liabilities. The guy who is available that I'd want is Chandler. We are a defensive team. He's a defensive specialist. He can play four positions well. He'd add so much depth, even more than what I'd hoped Artest would. He's young. He'll be a building block. He'll be a star. No more worries about who is behind Yao for years to come. Imagine playing him at the 2. Nightmare for other teams. I gasped when CHI let him go, and New Orleans stole him. I can't believe he's available again. Now is the time to take advantage of economic woes, and IMHO, he'd be the best building block we could add, outside of a top-fllight PG. It probably would take Artest and Landry, if Landry would give permission on his new contract. It might take Von Wafer. We might have to send them a TE for someone like Hilton Armstrong, and throw in Head, and a draft pick. Or trade Head for a draft pick, and throw that in. Whatever it took, I'd do this, even if it meant going over the LT. Imagine: Yao/Deke/(Chandler)/Armstrong Scola/(Chandler)/Hayes/Dorsey Battier/(Chandler)/(TMac) TMac/Von Wafer/(Chandler)/Barry Alston/Brooks/(TMac) That team would be deeper, faster and more athletic, with youth for the future, more than if we kept Artest, Landry and Head. Of course, if TMac was out, we could start him at the 2/3/4, and be better, IMHO. I hope we grab this opportunity. I'd feel so much more confident in this team for the long run.
Um, do you know who Tyson Chandler is? He's strictly a C maybe a PF. Since when can he play four positions? Maybe you're thinking of Wilson Chandler?
Wow, You put a guy reliant on a GREAT PG onto a team with below average PGs and what do you get? A wasted rosters space... I am not sure how I can be positive with this thread Sherlock....I hear what you are saying, but think you are completly wrong. DD
I didnt know Chandler played the SG position or could play it. And doubtful NO moves him to a division rival even if they are looking to shed money.
If we don't get him this time, you guys mark my words in a few years. You'll regret we didn't grab this opportunity ... and I'll be here to remind you ... lol Of course, I respect your opinion, DD ... but, disagree with you, as well. I seldom come out strong for anyone, but when I do, there's usually some truth in it.
You're crazy. He can NOT play the SG. show me a clip or some proof. Also if we traded for him he'd definitely be ahead of Deke in the depth chart
followed his career since he was in middle school? when has he played SG in the NBA? what are you talking about?
There is no way he can play four positions. Maybe for spot situations he might be able to guard four positions based on a posession by possession basis. But how in the world do you expect him to be a SF or SG when he cant shoot at all. If it wasnt for CP3 and the alley oops, this guy would almost never score. And you think he can play out on the perimeter? He makes almost 11 million this year, almost 12 next year and has a PO for almost 13 million the year after. No way is he worth that much especially on a team where Yao is the Center.
Now how would that be positive for the GARM? Look, I don't hate Chandler, just think he only dunks the ball on alley oops, and we don't have anyone capable of drawing the double teams and making that pass. The team has a lot more weaknesses than backup center. Particularly at PG. DD
say man it is tyson chandler.........LMAO OMG this is classic here...you might want to read the article completely first LMAO
Tyson Chandler has never played SG, and I seriously doubt he's ever played SF, either. he's around 6'10", 6'11", 7'0", and he is NOT the same kind of specimen as Dirk, Bargnani, or Odom. get your facts straight, sherlock.
