Of course I would, it's right. Okay, and all but the most short-sighted people in the world see that he's going to be a beast for a long time. Simply having him in the game makes our defense a lot better. He needs to work on his technique and some of the mental part of the game before he takes over the open guard spot. Of course, he's a rookie, so that's to be expected. Physically he's as advertised and all reports say he's a hard worker, so there shouldn't be much concern about him going forward. Again, he's a rookie, his blocking needs work because he's holding too often and the false starts have been a nuisance. That said, you can't hold the lack of catches against him because the Texans haven't been targeting TE's. It's another case where it's far too early to try to write the book on him because TE's often struggle their first season. For example, Jimmy Graham is one of the all time great TE's in the NFL and after his first 7 games he had 5 receptions for 49 yards with 7 targets. Point being you don't write the book on a TE after 7 games. They picked someone they knew had knee problems and would probably miss significant time, they did so because he was a first round talent that they got in the 3rd round. He's a question mark right now, but there's no need to be short sighted about it. If he doesn't show anything next year, then it'll be time to whine about it. What were you expecting? There wasn't any QB from this draft that would have played any more than Savage has now if drafted by the Texans. Did you not want them to draft a QB at all? He's a 5th rounder who has played 62 snaps the entire season. Were you expecting them to draft JJ Watt in the 5th round? I think the problem here is that you are super short sighted and expect rookies to be taking over the world 7 games into their careers. This was potentially a very solid draft, i say potentially because only the most short sighted people try to fully grade a draft 7 games into the very first season. The Texans have a lot of potential contributors in this class and at least one potential pro bowler down the line. That's pretty good.
Well I'd hope so since most people were. The tests they ran at the combine showed his knees were really bad....which is why he dropped. Obviously they couldn't know about him developing a wrist problem, but the knees were no surprise, or rather shouldn't have been a surprise to the organization because it wasn't a surprise to me.
Pickett has been surprisingly solid. side note, why do some people here seem to care more about the draft than the actual games ? it's a weird obsession
Because the team isn't headed anywhere this season. It's like when Houston was starting Chuck Hayes and marketing around Kevin Martin - you knew Morey was hiding in the background working the phones. Why invest emotionally short term when the real payoff is down the line? Ultimately what happens this Sunday isn't that big of a deal. It'll take some time for this team to settle in, develop an identity and put together a core of long-term players.
Glad that we both agree that you're being short sighted, now we can stop talking about this year's draft till later on when we have a better idea about it.
I am guessing you will rule him out, since he was drafted as a center, but Weston Richburg is starting at G for NYG and doing pretty good: http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2014/10/giants_weston_richburg_an_all-pro_guard_one_media_outlet_says_so.html Gee, what savvy ClutchFans GM drafted that guy?
Kind of like how you said Bridgewater/Bortles will never amount to anything good in the NFL after 5 games right? You should change your name to Bobbythehypocrite
Has there ever been a QB who started out as one of the worst QB's in the NFL who then went on to become more than meh? As so many like to point out, there's a big difference between the QB position and every other position on the field. You can come up with lots of O linemen, D linemen, DB's, and linebackers who struggled early in their careers who turned it on in their 2nd and 3rd seasons, how many QB's are like that? People sometimes like to point to Peyton Manning, but he passed for the 3rd most yards in the league his rookie year. Find me this QB who went from Geno Smith to Tom Brady. I can certainly point to numerous Kareem Jacksons.
Drew Brees in his THIRD YEAR posted a 67.5 passer rating. Bridgewater in his FIRST YEAR has a higher passer rating. Countless other examples. What would Aaron Rodgers' performance had been if he started in his rookie year? Plenty of other guys similar, they just didn't have to start in their rookie seasons. Look at Matt Schaub.
Fair enough, by all means, keep holding out hope that your draft crush will one day be something halfway decent. Odds are he won't though and that's something you'll just have to deal with down the line.
I'm sure you knew this, but Peyton Manning was the 3rd leading passer his rookie year and the average QB rating that season was 76.2 Steve Young probably works as an example, but it's telling when you have to go back to the mid-80's to come up with a legit example.
Manning had the third most yards... his QBR would have placed him #23 in his rookie year. A big factor, he had 28 interceptions that season (next most, Favre with 23).
Your arguing style is interesting. You were proven wrong about your assertion on 1st year QBs, but then state Teddy will suck anyway
