http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba-referee-bill-kennedy-reveals-he-is-gay--rajon-rondo-made-alleged-homosexual-slur-to-him-174255321.html Bill Kennedy, one of the NBA's top referees, has revealed he is gay. "I am proud to be an NBA referee and I am proud to be a gay man," Kennedy told Yahoo Sports on Sunday night. "I am following in the footsteps of others who have self-identified in the hopes that will send a message to young men and women in sports that you must allow no one to make you feel ashamed of who you are." Kennedy's announcement comes in the wake of the NBA's suspension of Sacramento Kings guard Rajon Rondo, who game officials, including Kennedy, heard unleash a disturbing torrent of anti-gay slurs following his ejection from a game on Dec. 3 in Mexico City. After Kennedy, 49, ejected Rondo with consecutive technical fouls in a Kings loss to the Boston Celtics, Rondo defied league protocol to immediately leave the court and began stalking Kennedy, who had retreated to a far sideline of the floor.
The bigger news is Rondo's actions and his suspension... which will be served during their game vs. the Rockets.
well now players can't say some specific words as curses otherwise the ban hammer will fall more severely. Other than that noone really cares. Which is the healthy response, because it is really none of our business.
Yes, being the first openly gay man in his profession means nothing. You aren't gay, so don't even pretend like you understand.
pretty cool you feel that way, but it's pretty obvious that rajon doesn't. i understand your position and truth be told when i first saw the headline tweet from woj, i was like... "meh". but after reading the article, to repeatedly say that while being an ambassador for the sport in a foreign country with every single eye focusing on you getting those techs all while getting paid millions of dollars... yeah. he knows better. techs obviously don't get rr's attention, but it's gotten the league's attention that this is not okay. for real? getting kicked out a game in mexico city like that while stalking the dude on the court and not leaving... calling him a f****t repeatedly?
I know that Kennedy had problems with Doc but I didn't know why. This explains it. I don't have a problem with this so much , because the coaches should know better. If they offend someone like that ,this is gamemanship and there are consequences.
I'm with several of the other posters here: who cares? It's not like it's illegal anymore. Just seems like a ploy for attention.
it's actually pretty cool. those gifs have always been some of my faves, along with the crawford ones. but what i find interesting is that people, commissar stern too, were dismissing anything and everything donaghy was saying on the counts of "well he has a book to sell." Light on what we've known all along, refs are bias, refs can easily be bought.
I kind of want to read the Tim Donaghy book now. Anyone have a .pdf? I don't want to support him after the Rockets vs Mavs series.
seems that he made his sexual orientation an issue by retaliating against the entire celts franchise for something doc said. how the F does the league not pick up on biased calls over and over? don't they boast that they allegedly review every single call and non-call multiple times?
The NBA where a foul is a foul...except when your head coach questions the sexuality of a ref, and that ref holds grudges...
