I do not see how or why every one thinks this film is so great. Way overrated and hyped. The plot is simple, pointless, and the ending is blatantly foreshadowed 10 minutes into the movie. No surprises, no suspense, no enjoyment. I thought it was supposed to be a funny movie, yet didn't laugh once. There were certainly a few chuckles, and it's not horrible, but it certainly fell way short of what i was expecting. Not sure why everybody abides by this movie as the GOAT of comedies.
Cult following. I don't recall it being a box office success. Similar trajectory with Napoleon Dynamite (the epitome of pointless).
Not sure why you don't think it's funny. I also saw it late, just a couple years ago, and thought it was hilarious. It's one of those movies I can't turn off if it's on. Full disclosure: I also like white Russians.
Didn't get it when I was little. But as an adult, it's a great movie. So many great lines. I have the leads quote always on standby in my head waiting for the opportunity. *Also if you didn't laugh at the sprinkles of the ashes scene you have no soul. "What was that **** about Vietnam? What the fu** does anything have to do with Vietnam. What the fu** are you talking about?" I always laugh at that scene.
The movie is well acted, but I didn't like it either. I think I gave it 5/10 in the "Rate the last movie(s) you watched" thread.
This thread is wrong on so many levels. I'm turning this thread into favorite scenes from Big Lebowski. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/EyH760MV3Yg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/-9CynvMlFyo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/u44D3qKKGPU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Do any of the people who dislike the move like any of the other Coen brother movies? For instance: Raising Arizona The Hudsucker Proxy Fargo O Brother, Where Art Thou? Burn After Reading or The Ladykillers (with Tom Hanks, not the Alec Guinness/Peter Sellers one)? I'm thinking most of the people who dislike Lebowski are just going to be tone deaf to that type of humor which focuses on oddball type characters. I'm sure there is also a whole lot of contextual info that younger people might miss out on. This scene makes me laugh ever time I see it: <iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/44617538?badge=0" width="500" height="375" frameborder="0" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe> <p></p>
What a revelation that not everyone has the same sense of humor. The Big Lebowski rules Spoiler for my particular sense of humor. Many thanks for the scene postings! Bridges was really incredible; he was actually pretty much acting out my vision of Deckard.
I didn't get A Serious Man. Thought it was boring and don't remember anything besides being confused at the ending. Also didn't really like Blood Simple. But everything else is great that I've seen. Think Barton Fink and Miller's Crossing are so underrated. Miller's Crossing is probably one of the best gangster films. And on that note here is the best TV censoring of The Big Lebowski. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/IQUdJ6FdUQ0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Nope. I liked Fargo and Burn After Reading, loved O Brother and Arizona, and think Ladykillers is one of the most underrated Cohen Bros movies ever (Hudsucker was just "meh" for me). But I was left flat by Lebowski. Found myself wanting it to end as soon as possible.
