Recently we let out 10 year old watch this scene. He laughed very hard. We breathed a sigh of relief for his future.
The Dude was going to be right back after going to the ATM per her offer but then she was kidnapped by Nihilists. Brandt was going to possibly watch? On news of the kidnapping...The Dude responded: "Bummer. That's a bummer, man. Mind if I light this...?"
it's a mystery novel set in period time- it just happens to be in the early 90's back in the incident with Sad'm and Eye-Rackies. as far as no plot, no point, are we splitting hairs here? The Dude's Playing one side against the other-in bed with everybody. it's a complicated case. Lot of ins, lots of outs. lot of strands in the old Duder's head. there are many facets to this, uh, you know, many interested parties... I guess that's the way the whole durned human comedy keeps perpetuatin' itself, down through the generations, westward the wagons, across the sands a time until-- aw, look at me, I'm ramblin' again. I sure hope he makes the Finals...
If you were born in the 70s or 80s and do not like TBL, you are probably not cool. If you also hate Dazed and Confused, you are definitely not cool. If you think Meet the Parents sucked, then you are probably a nerdy little dip****.
I like Dazed and Confused...liked Meet the Parents...along with Hangover, Wedding Crashers, Knocked Up, 40 yr Old Virgin, Old School, Superbad, etc... Just wasnt big on TBL because I saw it years after it came out...and my expectations were maybe too high. Ive only seen it once, so maybe watching it a few times will help...but the other comedies were funny to me the first time, while fully sober. TBL had its moments for me...but I dont consider it the GOAT that many believe it is.
Lebowski was released in what- 98? I went two years listening to my friends quote The Dude not getting their jokes. and I'm a huge Coen brothers fan. I remember being a little kid and loving Raising Arizona- there was something to the kooky style and quirky personalities in the films they make. my buddy sat me down kind of pissed that I hadn't seen it yet. we watched it on VHS tape and when it was over, I rewound the tape and watched a second viewing immediately after the first... it is one of the greatest comedies of all time and homage to the mystery novels of the 40's written by Raymond Chandler with Phillip Marlowe as the lead detective. that's the Dude- a brother seamus, a private dick. takin' 'er easy for all us sinners out there.
In my mental rankings of who has a sophisticated palette, you rank in the upper echelon. You would be top tier, but you air your opinions without the usual stench of pretentiousness so closely associated with the highest level snobs.
I thought it was OK funny. I can't see the vids posted here, but I did, however, crack up at the part where he's nailing this board on the ground with a crap-ton of nails and wedges a chair against the board and the door so the bad guys can't get in. As soon as he's done and puts the chair in place, the bad guys come through the door, because it opens the other way. That is freaking awesome.
The Big Lebowski is brilliant. I love it. I like most Cohen Brothers films. I didn't like Burn After Reading at all, and thought the acting was pretty bad in that one as well. Most other ones I've loved. I understand that the humor may be too subtle for some, and not up their alley. That's fine. There's no penalty for having a different opinion.
You like Lebowski, Beer, Bud, Radiohead, and the Rockets. Plus you let me pillage your draft for half a season of subpar LeSean McCoy We should be brothers or at least Eskimo Brothers. What I mean to say is. Let me **** your wife.
Your 1st, 2nd and 14th round picks in the Smeggy Footy league next year and it's a deal. Have your guy call my guy.
