The hate for Terry here is comical. Bottom line: this was a good trade and he's a useful player. He'll be good for the locker room and helps us improve our perimeter shooting. But, seriously, pretend for a second Dirk accepted DM's semi-serious max contract offer....would ya'll hate on him, too? He's killed us way worse than Terry ever did. Get over it. Be positive.
This is exactly what is happening. Also, keep in mind that salaries have to add up in a trade, and that Houston needed to acquire one relatively large salary (either a nonguaranteed contract or an expiring contract) to package with these picks and prospects. Terry is that relatively large contract. Terry isn't really going to play for Houston. He will either be the 13th man or will be placed on injured reserve with a made up injury. Anyway, yes, Daryl Morey knows that teams will be way more motivated to trade disgruntled stars in February than in September or October. We may also see Terry quickly flipped for Tayshaun Prince's larger expiring contract. Prince's contract makes it even easier to execute a January/February trade for that mystery veteran star player. And Memphis is dangerously close to the luxury tax threshold. Memphis may even include a second round pick in the deal. Oh, and Prince is still a decent player, whereas Terry is done.
Terry turns 37yo in around a fortnight. Looked past it with the Nets. He's probably the Rockets second best PG by default. That's not a good thing.
why are people so upset over this? most people dont understand that this trade isn't for basketball reasons. this is for salary matching reasons for a bigger trade. in that sense this is a very good trade. actually, for basketball reasons its a good trade too since terry is still better than gee and powell/hopson.
JT's 38% mark from downtown would have been best on our team last year. For a team that shoots as many 3's as we do, our team percentage from downtown was entirely mediocre. If JT can stand there and hit open 3's he potentially helps us. And if not, as others have mentioned, he's a relatively large expiring contract. Unless he pulls a Fisher, there's no way this type of move will backfire. He's a Rocket now and that's fine with me.
I can see it now. First game Terry plays in Rocket red he puts 20+ on the score board off the bench. The "disgusted" ones will not be so "disgusted" anymore. That is, if he even dons a Rocket Uni. Either way it was a good trade.
I've been in a cave for the last couple of weeks. Is there any indication that this trade was done only for cap management and not for basketball reasons? Or is this just some rationalizing conjecture?
Yes, but there are rules on what we can use as premises when you enter a discussion (links, direct quotes, etc). You can't just come up with anything in your head and use it as FACT. Otherwise, we just go around in circles and by inventing stuff that might not even be there.
IF he does wear a Rockets uniform, how fitting would it be if he drops 30 pts in 20 minutes against the Mavs.
LMAO no matter what trade happens there will always be people who b**** for no reason: 1) Trade Asik (who was gonna leave anyway) for high first round pick "Why you lose veteran presence?!?" 2) Trades Lin for cap relief (to chase a max FA): "Why you lose assets?!?!" 3) Acquires Jet as both vet presence and assets (2 2nd rounders): "Why you get not Dragic/Rondo/random pg?!?" WTF, just a couple of days ago everyone was complaining about losing assets and having Canaan as the only pg option, now we get Jet and a couple of 2nd rounders and people are still moaning and b****ing. There is no downside to this trade, Alonzo Gee and whoever else which was included weren't gonna contribute anyway, this trade shores up our weakest position with a vet and a dude who shot 38% last year. Who cares if he's 37, you aren't gonna ask him to play more than 15 mins a night and do more than shoot open 3's. This is an awesome move and when Jet lights it up everybody who hated on this trade now is gonna pretend they liked it all along
THIS^^^ I understand the hate from when he was a Mav. But now he's Rocket. Why all the hate still? Like they always say, he may be an a$$hole, but he's our a$$hole now.
What he did last year is pretty weird. .379% from 3 .327% from 2 His shots attempted from 0-3 feet disappeared. That is pretty consistent with an old man getting old. Hopefully, if he stays around he just camps at the 3 point line, and does a Troy Daniels impersonation. He has maintained 3 point percentage in spite of statistical declines nearly across the board nearly every where else. You guys who say we should love him now, would you be behind Hitler and Stalin if they put on a US Army uniform because they would be our dictators now? Tongue in cheek as regards Terry, but I'd like to think that there are some cheaters and @ssholes that I never root for, especially not in Rocket red, like Bruce Bowen or Karl Malone.
Kind of like with Parsons. When he was here with us, making all types of claims it was okay because he was our big headed wannabe superstar. Moment he leaves, bam! Everyone brings up the Best SF in the Portland series. Point is everyone wants to complain and find something to critique. If we got Lebron this offseason, people would be complaining about the bangwaggoners.
I agree that this is an unimpeachable trade, even if Terry contributes nothing. But, your other examples are just strawmen. The Asik and Lin trades were questionable because our requirement that they be traded with no salary coming back meant we sacrificed compensation in talent for compensation in cap flexibility (which we didn't ultimately need). I don't want to litigate those trades again, but you've completely ignored the best arguments for why those trades were disappointing.
Yea, but there all also people like you who'll cosign ANYTHING Daryl Morey does. If tomorrow he traded away Harden & Howard and brought back Von Wafer & Roy White, you'd be the first person in here defending it like "I like this trade, Morey sure is great!!". You are just as bad as the ppl your talking about. You will almost NEVER disagree with any move Morey's behind. With that said, I actually like the Terry move. How ironic would it be if he starts hitting daggers against Dallas like he did us? That would be the PERFECT scenario. Another thing that would piss Cuban off is if he had some really good years here, became a fan favorite and retired a Houston Rocket. This should be fun to watch play out
