A lot of people hate the +/- stat. I understand the arguments against it. But here goes anyway Lowry currently leads the team in raw +/- with +127 Also for raw +/-, Lowry is part of the Rockets' top 4 2-player combinations, top 5 3-player combinations, top 3 4-player combinations, and top 3 5-player combinations Lowry currently leads the team in +/- per 100 possessions with +3.8 Lowry currently leads the team in On/Off +/- differential (per 100 poss) with +6.6 Lowry currently leads the team in adjusted +/- at +9.3 Lowry leads the team in statistical +/- with +3.5 (statistical +/- is a boxscore formula for predicting a player's +/- impact, arrived at through regression on the prior 7 years worth of adjusted +/- NBA data) And then, consider the following table which answers the question: how does Lowry's presence on the floor impact his teammate's +/-? On Off Net Brooks +4.7 -2.8 +7.5 Ariza +1.1 -2.5 +3.6 Battier +3.7 -2.9 +6.6 Scola -2.3 -1.1 -1.1 Hayes +5.1 -0.1 +5.3 Landry +5.9 -12.0 +18.0 Budinger +10.2 -13.3 +23.5 Andersen +8.1 -22.1 +30.2 And for further validation of the above, consider Carl Landry's +/- numbers the last 5 games. PHX: -9 (Lowry out) GSW: -6 (Lowry out), @MEM: +15 (Lowry available) PHI: +7, but -14 in second half (Lowry available 1st half, out second half) MIA: -12 (Lowry out)
Wow. I've thought all season long that Kyle is the better point guard, but those are some startling numbers.
That's why I feel Lowry could be a better fit in starting lineup once Rockets get enough fire powers.
Definitely. If we had good shooters at the wing positions along with Scola or Landry at the Power Forward position, we should be alright. Lowry is probably the type of guy we need it during that Utah series that we could not get a rebound to save our lives.
Durvasa, do you have these stats for AB? I always feel AB is better to play SG, he is scoring like crazy, but he doesn't make his teammates much better. Thanks.
it must be pretty difficult for morey to have these two point guards....they both bring something that's very important to the team, but play the same position. If one of them has to go, i'd say it's brooks, but we need to get something good for him. Lowry may not have the offense brooks does, but he's too good at what he does and sticks to it and most importnatly, never stops doing it. If neither gets traded though, i think they both need to start. Get a solid back up pg, and trade for a big star PF to pair up with Yao so we still have some size on the court. It's a waste to keep him on the bench playing only 20 mins a game.
This stat's a reflection of Lowry's role. More so this season, Adelman brings Lowry in to charge up the team and push the pace, and he's really perfect for playing the sparkplug. When he eventually starts to fade and lose energy, Adelman pulls him out before his +/- takes a big hit. Depending on the game, his effectiveness can last 20 minutes to 35 minutes, and so his playing time flucuates more than that of other core rotation guys.
I agree with you, Kyle needs to start, I think Adelman should try it at least 1 game and see what happens. Aaron & Kyle work great together
How many minutes has Lowry played with Ariza and Battier as his wing options? How many minutes has he played with Ariza, Battier and Hayes?
According to the first link in the OP, Ariza, Battier, Scola and Hayes have the worst +/- on the team (excluding Conroy). Is that because of Brooks? According to the link in the third bullet point, Ariza, Battier and Hayes are all being outproduced by their positional opponents. I agree that Lowry is a special player but what do you think these numbers would look like if he had been playing all of Brooks' minutes, a large part of which are alongside Ariza, Battier and Hayes?
I think it would not be pretty, not enough offense. That's why Brooks needs to start on current team. I don't remember RA ever tried that lineup.
