So, I am running Windows seven and my computer is telling me I am eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 10. Is this something that I want? Any of you tech guys wanna give me the Cliffs notes on this? I only use this computer for gaming, streaming netflix, resume upkeep, and various excel worksheets for finances, NBA salary capping, etc.
Thanks for starting this thread. I have an old i5 laptop (HP Pavilion dm4-1165dx) and was wondering if upgrading it to Windows 10 would be a mistake. The last year or so it started to bog down running videos.
Windows 10 has been amazing for me on my SP3. I love it. I would say claim your copy, you won't regret it.
I would say if you have time to troubleshoot potential compatibility issues go ahead. Probably sticking to 7 on my main computer but my home desktop will go to 10 for sure.
Yes. It also combines features of new and old. It's great for touch screens and regular laptops alike.
How about telling us why it's amazing instead of your typical Microsoft marketing drivel? I don't truly believe it's free. There has to be a catch 22.
you know it's gonna be buggy when it first comes out. if you're going to get it wait a few months. personally, i'm sticking to my windows 7
Be careful if you use things like Windows Media Center : http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2015/06/02/windows-10-features-removed-windows-7-windows-8/
hello there, mr. gates. here to tell me internet explorer is the best internet browser and bing is the best search engine?
Comcast neutered Windows Media center, MS just finally killed it off. When you need a cable card with your tuner, its a freaking joke to even have a media center. Plus, Linux does media center functionality 100x better.
Do you mean Edge? Internet explorer is no more. Also, Bing isn't half bad. 90% of the time it yields the exact same search results as google. But yeah, MS products suck.
First and foremost it has multi desktop support. It makes for easier division of tasks. The start menu has the live tile features of Windows 8 but it isn't overpowering like it is in 8. It's fast. I mean real fast. Cortana integration is also great. Windows Hello also looks to be really promising. You have to try it for yourself to really see all the little new features. MS wants to get you hooked on their services ie Office and OneDrive. That's why 10 is free. It's a gateway drug.
That's why there is an insider build right now. Hell there are a lot of people that are even choosing to run the insider build as their primary daily driver. Microsoft wants to kill off the legacy users straggling behind on 7/8/8.1. The best thing for Microsoft right now is for everyone to get on Windows 10 so they don't have to waste time and resources supporting older operating systems.
Windows 10 has eliminated Internet Explorer for a brand new browser, Finally You can reserve Windows 10 now but don't have to install it right away, and you can even cancel the reserve if you want to. You can get Windows 10 for free now but after the year starting in July you're going to have to pay the 120 bucks to 200 bucks depending on the version you get. Yep the start button is back, looks like a cross of Windows 7 and 8.1 IMO As someone mentioned Media Center will be done away with. I think we may hear more around E3 and after since they want to integrate with the Xbox 1
