Sad news guys. Sources tell me his passing could be as early as tonight, he is in bad shape. Please keep him and his family in your prayers.
Oh damn, a Houston legend forever. Wish him all the best. It will be a sad, sad day in Houston when he does pass.
So sorry to hear this. The end of an era. An era that, at least for me, was even better than the Rockets championship years.
Prayers for the Philips family. And yes..this would mean that Wade wont be with his staff this weekend(and yes he should be with his family).
Oh my f.ck. I've known him since I was 5 years old. I still have many pictures with him, Campbell, Pastorini, etc. all signed to me. This is terrible to hear. Very sad.
Bum was the King of the early 80s sports run by Houston teams -- that speech in the Astrodome after the loss in the AFC championship game was epic.
Wasn't alive for his heyday but from the times I've seen him around and heard him speak, Houston is going to lose a great man.
I wasn't alive during the Oilers runs in the late 70s, but I know enough people that were that still regard those AFC Championship teams as their favorite teams of all time. I also know enough people that have met Bum in person to know that he's an amazing guy, and a genuinely sweet human being. It's going to be a sad day in Houston when the news finally comes that he's passed.
A legend, and ESPN better show him some respect. Same with Grantland and every other sports' media outlet.
