Wow. For anyone living in Houston through the Luv Ya Blue era, this is a sad day indeed. A fine man and a great representative of the city. Houston, we love you Bum! Thanks for the memories.

Not old enough to have experienced his career, but I loved reading his quotes. Funny man, RIP.

Man, what a tough loss. There aren't many that embody Houston more than Bum Phillips.

Rest in peace, Coach. Love ya Blue!

He should have had a character named after him in King of the Hill. It's impossible to explain how much impact Bum had on Houston sports. He is/was a Texas icon.

wasn't alive for this man Houston Oilers tenure, but he has had a lasting impression on the city of Houston...May God grant him rest and give comfort to the rest of the family.

Pretty amazing that he lived 90 years...

Bum was an Oiler and this deserves to be in a forum that reaches beyond football. His son is a football coach, but Bum was transcendent.

So true, and I grew up with him and his family. This is one very saddening and depressing night in the LonghornFan household/extended family.

I'll be very disappointed if the titans have a memorial. Bud's decision to fire Bum killed Luv Ya Blue and ruined my childhood innocence.
Bum is Houston, period. Tennessee just wouldn't understand.
