I will give you a pass because you actually said something that was correct in the US Open thread.

Stay out of foreign civil wars; have we not learned anything from the Iraq disaster? We have no stake in this; it is a no win situation. Yes, it is horrible, yes it is a human tragedy, but it is one we did not create nor can we resolve.

We need to poll to decide whether or not Congress will pass a declaration.

I was just recently turned on to a document from 1996 that some feel essentially laid the ground work for where we are today. Haven't seen it mentioned here before, but I found it to be more than relevant. I'm sure some are aware of it, and others as unaware as I was. The similarities between what is proposed, and what we've seen over the last 15 or so years is striking.

A Clean Break: A New Strategy for Securing the Realm

It really highlights the complexity of these issues, and how far beyond a single US president this goes. We've had 3 since this repot laid the ground work for what has been going on in the middle east ever since. The end goal of establishing regional stability seems reasonable, but as always, what's the cost?

That is clearly not John Kerry in the photo. It is Jay Leno.

Edit: here is a side view, in a different diplomatic meeting, that proves my point.

To Mideast, U.S. policy on region seems adrift
Middle East friends and foes alike seem to find President Obama's lack of decisiveness confounding.

BEIRUT — President Obama's surprise decision to seek congressional approval for military strikes on Syria reinforces a growing image across much of the Middle East of a regional U.S. policy that is adrift at a time of perilous change.

The announcement Saturday, after a week of tough rhetoric on Syria, comes at the end of a hard summer for Obama on thorny issues stemming from the "Arab Spring" uprisings two years ago. In Egypt, the U.S. appears to have alienated not only the new military-led government, but Islamists, nationalists and liberals as well with its approach to the July 3 coup that ousted the country's first democratically elected government.

On Syria, Obama has been deeply reluctant to get involved militarily. But he finds himself ensnared in his own rhetoric of a year ago establishing a "red line" against the use of chemical weapons.

Looming in the background is another issue that is a major concern, not only for Washington but for many of its allies — including Israel. That is Iran.

Yes, I'm sure they are confounded by the fact that the US is measuring it's response responsibly and ain't all Cowboy Up and willing to slaughter it's citizens and those of another country without thinking it through.

    "measuring its response responsibly"

    BWAAAHAHAHA EUPHEMISM

More like "dude can't make a decision because he's indecisive and a weak leader"

And you're so sure of this because...?

Obama doesn't have 9/11 to convince the public for him. The opportunism of the Bush administration to take advantage of a surge in post 9/11 nationalism is indicitive of fortune, not strong leadership. Obama is stalling while they continue looking for ways to garner public support.

Not the type of questions folks like him usually answer.

If he states what it is he wants, then there's a chance it could actually happen. The truth is, the bassos and bigtexxx's of this board would rather keep the option of being critical in hindsight open to any potential decision to be made. After all, the wrong decision is the one Obama makes. If they choose a stance now, they preclude themselves from saying it was the wrong choice down the line.
