The surgery went well....and according to what was reported from the Chinese reporters based in Houston, Yao Ming will check out from the hospital tomorrow.

HOUSTON -- Yao Ming underwent surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left foot on Monday.

Houston Rockets team doctor Tom Clanton and Dr. Bill McGarvey performed the surgery on the All-Star center Monday morning.

"Yao is comfortable and recovering well after surgery," Clanton said in a news release. "We will continue to monitor his recovery and begin an aggressive rehabilitation once he is physically deemed ready."

Clanton has said the surgery would involve placing screws across the bone to hold it together with a recovery time of about four months. Doctors do not expect the injury to keep Yao from playing for China in the Olympics in Beijing in August.

"I am very relieved that everything went well with my surgery today," Yao said in the release. "I am looking forward to getting better and starting my physical rehab as soon as the doctors say I can."

The Rockets have won 15 consecutive games, including three in a row since Yao's season-ending injury.

"I would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes during this time and I look forward to the day that I can rejoin my Rockets teammates on the bench," Yao said.

IMHO, Maybe Yao can recover his 3p shooting in his physical rehab . Any thought?

I think once he completed his physical rehab and starts to walk on is own
then he can practise on his 3pts.

Well actually he told the Chinese reporters that he'll start doing strength and conditioning exercise on his upper limbs 2 week from now.

Hopefully somebody make sure he doesn't get bulked up doing all those conditioning. He needs to lose weight, not gain more.

Therefore, no matter how I hate all these sh!!!!!!t happening so soon and abruptly that ended Yao Ming's bright and promising season, I have created this thread, .....and will post regularly any news update or translated articles, if possible photos, from Western or Chinese press, of Big Yao during his rehabilitation, just like what I used to do for the summer.

I'm in Hong Kong now.....

But I'll retire and move to China in another month.

But by any means, this thread does not belong to me alone......so if you have anything regarding Yao Ming's recuperation and rehabilitation that I miss capturing, you're more than welcome to contribute to this thread.

Great news indeed. It seems Yao Ming will be allowed to resume his strength and conditioning exercise on his upper limbs within a week's time.

Zhang Zheng of the Official Sohu-Yao Ming site reports

USA Houston local time on March 3 (Beijing standard time March 4 dawn), the Houston Rockets sent out official press releases/notice to reporters that had been following up on Rockets news that the surgery to repair Yao Ming’s stress-fractured left ankle and removal of bone spurs had been completed successfully at the Memorial Hermann ~ Texas Medical Centre.

After the surgery, Team Yao’s Zhang Mingji (Yao Ming’s manager) accepted an interview by the Sohu Official Yao Ming website to give an update briefing of Yao Ming’s surgery to everybody concerned through Sohu.com Sports.

Zhang Mingji said "The entire surgery on Yao Ming’s left ankle lasted approximately 3 hours. Screws had been placed inside to fix the tarsal navicular bone of his left foot to speed up healing of the stress fracture. Meanwhile, the screws will also enable the foot to increase its sustainability and capacity (to carry his weight) in future. " He further added: “The doctors thought that the quality and density of Yao Ming’s bone are extremely good; they are the ones classified as the best amongst ordinary people.”

Zhang Mingji said "The doctors also said that the surgery was better than originally imagined. Their original estimate was that plaster casting needs to be put on the ankle for 1 week and the foot sole for 6 week for the ankle and sole to be fixed. It now seems the castings on both the ankle and the sole can be removed within 1 week.”

Zhang Mingji further added: “During his recovery period, Yao Ming needs to wear protective boots, and for a short period after the surgery he cannot touch the ground and walk. But in a week’s time, he should be able to start some strength and conditioning exercise of his upper limbs.”

Finally Zhang Mingji said "While inserting the screws to fix the fracture of his tarsal navicular bone of his left ankle, the doctors also removed bone spurs from his instep and ankle, such that he could play basketball more comfortably in future.”

Yao needs to learn how to rest his body. This is a good opportunity for him to take a month or two from doing any training. He'll still have plenty of time to rehab for the Olympics.

One thing i would like to see is Yao Ming taking standing on Reebok. They just need to make some quality shoes to protect Yao's feet!

Yes, you figure Reebok could make one super nice pair of shoes for their #1 athlete, it does matter if cost 50k for that one pair of shoes!
