Memphis - Houston's Assets Minny - Gay Houston - Love or Sactown - Gay Houston - Cousins Memphis - Houston's Assets
Seems like alot of Memphis fans want that to happen. I would imagine a trade would go like this: Cleveland Gets : Gay, Speights, Unprotected 1st round pick (Maybe a bit too much) Cleveland Sends: Varejao, Gee, CJ Miles (Shooting the 3 well this season) and a future 2nd round pick
Rudy Gay, the guy with 15.3 PER, .487 TS%, doesn't play defense, and is on a max contract? That Rudy Gay? This is Morey right now:
The grizzlies aren't giving up a 1st round pick in this deal. But if the grizzlies were to add Varejao, plus a defender like Gee to the team, we'd be extremely difficult to beat in the playoffs. The grizzlies can win by limiting possessions and Varejao in a 3 headed monster that includes Zach and Marc, would be scary.
A 3 way trade with Utah could be interesting. UTAH IN Gay NYK 2ND Rnd OUT Milsap PG Jamaal Tinsley SG Randy Foye SF Rudy Gay PF Derrick Favors C Al Jefferson/Enes Kanter HOU IN Milsap OUT Delfino/Patterson NYK 2nd rnd PG Jeremy Lin SG James Harden SF Chandler Parsons PF Paul Milsap C Omer Asik GRIZ IN Raja Bell Delfino Patterson OUT GAY PG Mike Conley/Raja Bell SG Tony Allen SF Carlos Delfino/ PF Zach Randolph/ Patterson C Marc Gasol
I read the article I wasnt implying that parsons was included in the trade...but never the less they play same position and basic roster building 101 tells you that it is not wise to have so much investment in redundancy. You do not spend 10 million on pg in free agency when you have a better player for 1 million...you spend where you have weakness...IE PF... If you move parsons to pf then you take a way a lot of his game and value too
With this talk about redundancy, you do realize that Rudy Gay is a swingman and Chandler Parsons is a 3/4, right?
Rudy Gay's stats are affected by the defensive system that hollins put in place and most every team in the league knows this. Put Gay on any other team and it'd be much the same as OJ's effect on Dallas. Namely, he'd look like a world beater. The grizzlies play an exhausting brand of defensive basketball which affects shooters on the team.
Also, Parsons playing the 4 has been one of the Rockets' most potent offensive lineups this season. It's been working out pretty well for the Rockets and for Chandler Parsons. To me, he lacks the bulk to defend bigger power forwards in the post, but whatever--it's definitely a stretch to say that any of these lineups are conceived by the coaching staff with defense in mind over raw scoring potential.
I'm no Gay fan, and agree with your points, but I'll concede that e's actually become a better defender as of late - especially when he has to match up with the elite types (LBJ, etc), he has the size/quickness ratio to frustrate.
I really really hope that we don't go after Gay (pretty sure we won't), but I am kind of intrigued by the idea of bringing in a 3 (Iguodala, Granger etc.) and sliding them or Parsons to the 4 to play small ball. I really think the traditional power forward is becoming obsolete in today's NBA. I'm not intrigued by any PFs out there (Smith, Millsap).
i think memphis will be fine. rudy gay would probably be better on an up and down team (not suggesting the rockets), his individual stats might be hurt by their style but the overall team isn't.
