Rockets trade Camby to Knicks for Douglas, Jordan, Harrelson, 2nd round picks

What did the Knicks gain by trading with us? Why didn't they just sign Camby? Apologies if this has been covered--I browsed half the thread and didn't see it.

 

Camby can get more money or he would not sign with Knicks.

 

because of their cap situation, NY could not offer enough money to Camby.
In order for him to get the size contract he was looking for, a sign and trade had to be done.

With the Knicks floundering, this trade is actually going to be worth something now. I'd imagine the Knicks 2014 and 2015 picks combined should be worth a low 1st rounder.
