Not really feeling this to be honest, but let's see how they do it. I remember when just by the name I thought fresh off the boat and Blackish were going to be super stereotypical and basic, but there turn out to be layer to them.
First of all, Asian Americans can relate to non asian people. They've been doing it all this time. So they aren't racist. Second of all, asians have unique cultures and customs, a movie that appears to highlight some of those is automatically more relatable to asians. That's a fact. Thirdly, you haven't yet explained exactly why you are complaining about this, other then "racial quota". What's your problem with having more non-white people in lead roles and stories in movies?
Didn't call Asians racist and your argument is with who i quoted. not me. I agree Asian Americans can relate to non-Asian people. Not even close to addressing what i wrote where a character is from or their skin color is probably the least interesting part of a character. I would rather have a studio concentrate on story then concern themselves with meeting the racial quota of social justice warriors. As this character doesn't have a very interesting story line (from the comic books) because hes not a very popular character, it suggests the studio doesn't agree with me. Finally, take a deep breath and relax.
First people were mad that Nick Fury was white. Then they were mad that Iron Fist was white. Then they were mad that the Ancient One was gender-less. Now they're mad that Shang Chi is Asian.
Nick Fury was white in the comics but Jules from Pulp Fiction in the movies Iron Fist is white, the dude's identity is Danny Rand. People were not happy he's that scrub from Game of Thrones
Fury WAS white in the comics. But he was ALSO black in the comics BEFORE Samuel L. Jackson. At least I think that's how it went down. When Marvel relaunched everything as Ultimate.
To you, probably because every character is from America or is white. For someone from China or has family in China, if a superhero is also from China, it's very interesting to them, especially because there has never been a supehero from China before. How do you not realize this.
I'm not sure what the issue is. He is not a ret-conned character. He was popular in the 70's (I think he also had a magazine or at least was heavily featured in one). His early run is considered a classic by comic book fans. More recently, he would show up in multiple books including the Secret Avengers for a while (I think that was the name). As for digging up less popular characters, the Guardians also came out in the 70's and we're far less successful -- so much so that the current bunch are completely different than the originals (who were from the future). Even Captain Marvel (was Ms.) has been up and down in popularity until fairly recently. Yes, I have read too many comics.
There isn't an issue issue. It's because any minor character that's also non-white male will have the suspicion cast upon the role as either SJW brainwash campaign or a money grab for ethnic audiences. Whether it's true or not (get a life?).... who cares a long as it's watchable.
