Here's what Lawson did against us. Mid range, drive to the basket, great passing <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/iEXQDJPdQa4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Hate to say it but watching this video and a couple other oldies made me think that having Chandler P. would do wonders for us. On the other hand, I hate the idea that Rocket's brass think the same and drafted Dekker because of it.
he seems to be on a completely different page. hopefully it gets figured out soon. its pretty inexcusable at this point. We're 14 games in, and Ty still has 2-3 passes per game that lead to turnovers because no teammate is near where he is passing to.
Maybe Lawson is an X's & O's guy? And since we don't have any of those his read and react = the Lawson we are seeing
You know what's interesting about all those highlights? I only saw one single play where Lawson caught the ball from someone else and took a shot. Every other play (prob 30 or so in the video) involved Lawson dribbling to a spot using several screens to get a shot off for himself or for the roller. Now he's expected to just catch and shoot. The few times he does handle the ball, a guy like Dwight is too busy spending time trying to post up. If we want to use Lawson to his full potential, he has to be on ball. With his poor defense, Lawson is worthless off the ball. The basic question is, how effective can Harden be off ball? Because that's the only way a Lawson/Harden back court can effective. Otherwise it's very easy to just have Bev/Harden start and play Lawson 15-20 mins per game and tell Harrell or Capella to set screens for him all day in the 2nd unit.
Lawson is a pass first kind of guy. The Rockets have to move more without the ball. It's not just Harden. No one else really moves much off the ball either. Guys just go stand in the corner or just slightly drift around the perimeter. We need more variance to our offense. We need to do more than a high pick and roll with "shooters" in both corners. Harden goes to the post and it's like some sort of revelation. That should be something basic and standard that we go to every now and then especially when we are struggling on offense. Hopefully JB is trying to correct this and reverse all the years of bad habits.
