The Knicks messed up when they gave him that contract, now they want something above average back?

You made your bed, now sleep.

I hope Melo ****s them over even worse now, forces a trade, & Morey gives them a shittier package.

Your take on this is 180 degrees from mine. We'll both survive.

But, will the Knixies now look worse if a deal back doesn't sell well in Knickerland?

The problem is nobody wants to take on Ryan Anderson's contract, and that's what Morey offers.
What if Rockets buy out Ryan instead? Maybe for 30M, so he can go sign a more reasonable deal somewhere else. The 30M is like 10M per year extra for him.

I listed three options earlier so we have to first see what Melo's camp's play will be. If it's trade me or else I'll sulk or not show up for camp... we've seen that before with stars and honestly .... that would be such a Knicks drama thing I could totally see happening. Then Melos camp would be wishing they opted for Miami or the Spurs.

It's crazy but it's just going to be depending on this meeting. I'm sure Melos camp will toy with a buyout agreement cause it allows him to potentially get paid and keep the team he wants to go to with more assets... something he learned in his trade to the Knicks that killed him later on.

But I fully expect objective #1 for the Knicks to be trying to get him to expand his list of teams and if they were smart they come with deals with other teams they've already been working on.

You buy him out we still have the cap hit... if it was that easy teams would buy out players every year

But what would that really accomplish? how would that change his mind?
Say they came with a deal from boston, why would that deal make him change his mind when stephen A already reported he would not waive his no trade except for cleveland or houston.
The only plausible way i see them not trading him is if they sell him on Phil being the cancer and he agrees to stay and try it with the new management which is far fetched given that they already signed hardaway to a ridiculous contract. There is no reason for him to add teams he would waive his no trade clause for because if he doesent he knows he will probably play for clev or hou his preferred destinations.

That's not a risk, because if it was, Melo would've communicated it to Cp3/Harden and they would've let Morey know to offer the picks. The fact that the Rockets are sticking to their guns tells me Melo has no intention of going anywhere else, not even Cle in a buyout, and Cp3 had relayed this to the FO already.

The Rockets are all in this year with cp3 only under contract for 1 year. Yes he would most likely resign for the 5 year max, but with all his buddies becoming FAs next year, it is still a risk that he leaves if things don't go well. Bringing in one of his best friends at his request goes a long way to locking him up for the future, not to mention boosting our championship odds. There is no way Morey risks squandering that for a 1st rounder in the late 20s. Push come to shove I bet he would even include Gordon or Capela, that's how all in the rockets are - upping the risk profile right?

So the only plausible reason why they refuse to offer any if those, even the low 1st, is because they know they have Melo in the bag. Which going by Nene's social media and cp3's interview, and countless "sources" further suggests this is the case.

Sorry dobro and aruba but you guys are flat wrong.

At first I was ambivalent about the whole Melo scanario. Never was a real fan of his.
Then I started realizing how well he could work with James and CP. Then I got excited.
    Now THIS . . . . .

Its so obvious adam silver is trying to block this trade

Had no problem with the pacers shipping pg13 to okc for trash lol. But we have to do everything to get a player that clearly wants to be in houston

NO portland would gladly take it on...the real problem is the knicks have not come to the realization that they have to settle in the trade and accept a package below market value for their star or risk letting him leave for nothing in return. They can still retain cap space with a trade and gain picks but the assets arent that enticing. Once they realize Melo wants houston they cant do anything about it. Lets just hope hes dead set on houston because if thats the case the knicks know they r screwed and will have to accept

Melo is like the 5 mill instagram model that randomly DMs you and says.... "Yeah we can hook up tomorrow. I'm digging your style and I want you.

Tomorrow turns into a week, two ..etc. No call.

Now you just feel like... IS Melo is a high end escort? Or is his PIMP (Knicks) very shady?

My boy @FTW Rockets FTW will buy you dinner at STEAK 48!

Me lo doesn't want out of NY because he hates the franchise. He loves NY but he wants to win. Why would he want to leave NY to lose somewhere else? If all he's going to do is show up and collect a paycheck, it may as well be with the Knicks in NY.

The Knicks are in a really bad position and everyone knows it. If they don't trade him, then they get nothing in return. They can send him to the Cavs, he will be closer to home and likely disrupt Cleveland....but a chance to win a ring. Send him to Houston, he's out of the East, and less likely chance to win. Houston is their best play.

Maybe nothing but they must be thinking to themselves they have nothing to lose. Even if he's defiant and throws a fit and says Htown or bust, they hurt nothing by trying. They hurt nothing by dragging it out to training camp either in the hope that he expands his list of teams or comes to a buyout that makes sense.

Where they get hurt is making a bad deal that hurts them long term with bad contracts or putting themselves through a Melodrama if he's still here and sulks on the bench all season.

And honestly they are probably preparing for his people to be open in discussing a buyout and a buyout is preferable to a bad trade. Where you guys are wrong is thinking they are trying to change his mind. They aren't doing that.. they are trying to get him to negotiate a better way forward which he has no reason to NOT be open to discussing... since one way (buyout) actually benefits him the most.

Melo needs to win or his career looks very Shareef Abdur Rahim ish...

    This is all CP3 work.

Melo has control. He b****es and Knicks trade him in Feb.

Too much going on for the Knicks to even convince him to stay. Let him live. Houston or Cleveland. The guy will always be paid. He's a fashion / celeb outside of bball icon. The NBA won't be his last big accomplishment.
