    Timberwolves talking three-way Garnett deal

    By Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports
    June 27, 2007

NEW YORK – Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Garnett is close to going to the Phoenix Suns in a monumental three-way trade that would send Phoenix forward Amare Stoudemire to the Atlanta Hawks, league sources said Wednesday.

Atlanta would move the Nos. 3 and 11 picks in Thursday's draft, as well as Zaza Pachulia and Anthony Johnson, to Minnesota.

Minnesota owner Glen Taylor has delivered a mandate to his basketball executives to get a deal done, one league executive said.

Yahoo! Sports has learned that the trade would also save the Hawks from an emerging showdown between the front office and coaching staff over whom to draft with the third pick. The front office and coaching staff had settled on Florida power forward Al Horford, but a faction of the Atlanta Spirit ownership group, with business interests in China, is pushing them to take Yi Jianlian.

The deal hinges on Atlanta general manager Billy Knight saying yes, as well as Hawks ownership, which is mired in lawsuits, being willing to increase payroll. It is believed that star Hawks guard Joe Johnson talked to his former Suns teammate on Wednesday and that the 24-year-old Stoudemire, a first-team All-NBA choice, told him that he'd welcome the trade.

This is obviously not as good for the Suns as Marion for KG, but it's still a coup. KG can do everything Amare can plus distribute and play stellar D, and doesn't have microfracture surgery on his knee. I have no idea what Minnesota is doing, I don't think #3, #11, and cap relief are enough for KG

*******, now they have 2 guys who can make life tough for tmac in marion/kg.

kg is way better than amare in that he can create his own shot and he can play tough D.

oh my, suns are the EASY favorites for next yr. but again, nash wasn't that good w/ dirk. hopefully playing w/ KG takes the ball away from nash => not as effective.

    but man on paper

    pg - nash
    sg - bell
    sf - diaw
    pf - marion
    c - garnett

oh snap, tmac and yao better be working on their game b/c we gonna need their offense

this seems more fair. and phoenix may end up being better off with marion over amare.

oh and kg singlehandedly disrupted the rockets offense last year, now phoenix can score and defend all over us. ouch.

we'll see what happens when we get artest though. :)

Don't be so quick to think that Marion is staying. It's obviously best for the team if he does, however salary cap issues could still see him being shipped out.

Man, if the Suns take KG, they will certainly bite the bullet and pay luxury tax in order to win a championship. Ship out Marion after getting KG!? What's the point?

So Minny would have picks #3, #7 (their own), and #11 in the draft?

Not that it makes up for KG but....they can get a pretty nice haul there with those 3 picks.

If the Hawks could find a way to get Ridnour from Seattle then the Hawks might become a poor-mans Phoenix. Johnson, Amare, Ridnour, Josh Smith, Marvin Williams etc.

what about the Hawks, they get Amare who along with Josh Smith and Childress form the best dunking team in the league. JJ/Amare/J-Smoove is not a bad core

I look forward to seeing what Amare Stoudemire, Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, and Josh Childress can do together in the Eastern Conference.

u have to take thel uxury cap. kg does EVERYTHING better than stat and is actually a franchise player. now they can afford to play nash less mins b/c kg can create himself.

if u want to win, pay the luxury tax. phoenix is obviously desperate b/c besides these proposals, they're looking to move up in the draft and all of these things.

yet we're here not having any big deals

if only would tey get a #1/2 pick. those picks won't get a franchise player, but they'll be decent in the future.

Can the Rockets trade Head for Josh Smith? The Hawks get too many forwards.

Looks like we may find out how good Amare is without Mr. Nash . . .

Not a chance. The Hawks would move Sheldon Williams or Marvin Williams before they would move Josh Smith.

We'll get Artest! It's time for Adelman to bring a team of escort ladies to see the Maloof brothers and have a crazy night in Vegas so the Maloofs will sign off the Artest trade.

If the Rockets wanted to pull off a big deal like this, they'd be trading McGrady. Somehow I imagine you wouldn't be happy with your favorite player becoming trade bait.

Be careful what you wish for... because you just might get it.
