He's not as wrong as you may think - unfortunately you have to read most every post in every thread to understand his point of view.
Went to a game vs Yankees last year and a kid behind us started yelling "BOO traitor!" every time he went up to bat. I'm thinking how does this kid even know who Beltran is? Kid wasn't even born when he played here.
If they want short-term immediate help....Sale and Archer provide that better at a cheaper cost. Sale and Archer are only being traded if the teams look to rebuild. Rebuilding teams want more club control than he provides. Plus, Astros signed Gurriel to a contract that the Rays and CWS thought was too much. Why would any team change its mind so quickly after the less than half a season that not only are they willing to pay his salary now, but they would also be willing to take less prospects in a deal for their ace?
I would've flipped Reddick and Beltran position wise (and probably in the lineup too). Reddick won a gold glove in right not that long ago. Given Beltran's more limited mobility at this age, it actually wouldn't be too bad hiding him in left for home games.
I'm guessing he'll play in the left handed batter's box the most pitchers are right handed. On in the field, he'll likely split time depending on who needs a day off.
Astros are going to hit a lot of Homeruns in MMP this year. Hoping for EE. It would be an insane lineup.
you may very well be right, but you're making assumptions on their gurriel views, and you're also ignoring the rest of the potential package. maybe he simply preferred houston and their recruiting effort to any other team? needs/wants/team direction can change quite a bit over half of a season and into the offseason. regardless, i'm happy they aren't going to give up bregman for sale. that would've been stupid.
Roster spot and salary direct replacement for Rasmus. Should still be enough flexibility to go after more.
Will Harris going to give up #36 to Beltran? Or he gets back #15 and Jim Crane loses jersey sales because old fans still kept his shirt and won't bother getting a new one.
Different uniforms, so people will be forced to upgrade. The brick and sand have thoroughly been buried ala Tal's hill.
He helps, but I see next year as getting into the playoffs, and the year after going for the championship. Beltran won't be around.
it looks like he's missed like 2 championships by one year with the giants and cards, plus our world series by a year, so maybe 2018 is in fact our year.
I would definitely try to hide him in left. Going from springer to Beltran in right would be a huge step back defensively. Hopefully he DHs more than anything.
Beltran isn't really a massive defensive liability. He was basically average last year, and below average in 2015. He's certainly not gonna help you defensively, but he's not Preston Tucker, dear god get him out of the field bad. Having him at the DH is as much about keeping him fresh. Our OF is gonna look different almost every day, and I think all 5 guys are gonna be getting regular work.
