His three singles yesterday & the one so far today were all infield singles to the pull side. Not sure if he was rolling over or trying to beat a shift, but it looks like he can make a living there, even if his power doesn't come quickly.
Drew Ferguson just hit a 2-run home run (1) to extend his hitting streak to 10 games with Fresno. He has at least one hit in all but one game this season.
Josh James allowed 4 hits and struck out 7 over 5 shutout innings for Corpus. James has a 1.38 ERA and a 23:2 K:BB ratio in his first 13 innings.
Comment on Josh James from Kiley McDaniel of Fangraphs: Alec Asher Wojciechowski 12:35 Josh James has been very good so far in AA, is he an older prospect taking advantage of less advanced competition, or is this a legitimate breakout? Kiley McDaniel 12:36 Up to 98, has had a big velo jump each of the last two years, he's a guy now.
Brandon Bielak vs. Myrtle Beach: 5.2 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 5 K Anibal Sierra is 2-2 with a 3-run homer (2) as Buies Creek is up 9-0.
Sierra obviously has some pretty good power for a SS. He is striking out far too much to be a viable prospect but if he is somehow able to get that under control he’d be very interesting.
It would behoove him to make himself interesting, especially since he got $1.5 million and there's a pretty talented (albeit extremely raw) wave of middle infielders behind him.
Gonna be some short leashes. How long can you keep that BC pitching staff out of AA? How long do you give fringy position player prospects in AA, High A, and A ball before giving younger guys a shot? Given the glut of talent still in Florida I suspect we will see a larger wave of promotions/releases than normal this June.
It probably has more to do with the roster construction than the manager, but it seems like Ensburg's Valleycats were really good at pitching last year too.
A nice new feature on Fangraphs that combines their team prospects lists, top 100 prospect list, international prospects, and draft prospects....https://www.fangraphs.com/scoutboard.aspx?draft=2018prospect&type=0&pos=all&team=hou
Myles Straw is the first man in the system to steal 10 bases this season. Over/under for the season: 55 (i'm taking the over)
Brandon Bailey @ Carolina: 4 IP, 2 H, ER, 3 BB, 9 K Ronnie Dawson's 2-run homer (2) is currently Buies Creek's only scoring play as they trail 4-2.
