Rogelio Armenteros vs. Reno: 7 IP, 5 H, ER, BB, 8 K The one run scored on an inside-the-park homer. Three Buies Creek pitchers combined for a one-hitter in a 5-0 win over Salem. Brett Adcock: 4.1 IP, H, 5 BB, 2 K Jesús Balaguer: 3.2 IP, BB, 3 K Justin Ferrell: IP, K Troy Sieber: 2-3, 2B, 2-R HR (1), 4 RBI Abraham Toro: 2-3, solo HR (1) Sieber's piqued my curiosity a bit. At 5'11", 215, his build resembles Tyler White, he can hit a little bit, and he's demonstrated an ability to get on base (career .394 OBP through last night's game). Problem is, Sieber appears to be strictly a 1B (although to be fair, this is most likely his first extended foray in a full-season league) and needs some work on hitting the ball in the air, as evidenced by his career 1.51 groundball/fly ball ratio and .426 career slugging percentage. He could be a guy who makes hard contact, but his swing path probably puts the balls he puts in play into the ground instead of lashing them into the gaps.
A few more weeks of this and we might start talking about Drew Ferguson as more than a potential 4th OF. Of course his .481 BABIP won’t hold, but a guy who can play CF, walk as much as he strikes out, and hit double digit HR in AAA is an everyday player and potential 3 WAR guy.
Corbin Martin had another stellar start today. 6 ip, 0 r, 6 k. Definitely the most positive early returns of any prospect in the system so far.
Hate to get mushy on you but I just want to say a few things. (I'm not a super active member) 1. For years I thought that your name was some sort of scientific term. In my mind I pronounced it telly-tliky-itis, like telekinesis or something. I felt real dumb when I saw your post one day and realized it was tell it like it is... 2. You will always be engrained in my memories of this championship team. Before we were good, and the Astros were too bad to watch I would look forward to checking on your updates every day or every other day. I remember Altuve being called up, George Springer's 4 homerun day, some of us thinking that Telvin Nash was going to be the god of Houston one day, hearing your updates on Captain Correa, and just how good he was, it was such a big reason why I love this team so much now. I feel like I saw them grow into ball players through all the work you do. It made the gold a lot sweeter. 3. I don't keep up as regularly anymore, probably will when Whitley is back, but thanks for all the work you do. I'm sure it's a lot but it makes all the difference as a fan. Thank you.

Alcala wraps up Buies Creek's third straight shutout, a 3-0 win over Myrtle Beach. 4 IP, H, 7 K The Carolina Stros had a no-hitter going through 7.1 IP.
Nice bounce back for Alcala. It apparently started raining while he was pitching, so that might be part of why he didn't finish the game quite as strong as he started. Cionel Perez had a better game this time around as well: 4IP, 3H, 0R, 3BB, 6K
Myles Straw's 1st xtra base hit of the season was a triple to the left-center wall. Is he starting to pull for power?
Carmen Benedetti doubled twice and drove in 3 for the Hooks. (cc: Buck) Ralph Garza allowed 2 hits and struck out 6 over 4 scoreless as the Hooks battered Arkansas 9-0. Drew Ferguson went 2-5 for Fresno; he has a 9-game hitting streak and has recorded a hit in all but one game this season.
I am really starting to love Myles Straw as a prospect. The guy is great at literally everything except driving the ball. Everybody just keeps assuming his results will start to fall off when advanced pitchers start challenging him, but we'll see. Give me a slick fielding Brett Butler, Juan Pierre type any day of the week.
Those guys only work if they can actually get on base constantly and make the defense respect them. The guy hit 1...1 ball to the gap and now we're talking about a power surge.
Which he's shown that he can do on a consistent basis. Yes I know, still the minors. I would like to see him refine his base-stealing a little more. But Myles Straw completely abandoning what's gotten him to this point in exchange for over the fence power is what's going to get him to the majors. (agreeing with you, btw) Gap power's still useful... no need for him to try and sell out for over-the-fence power, or even make it a major part of his game.
I'm not. Singles and walks are fine by me as long as you have the speed and defense to go with it. He doesn't hit for power, and I never expect him to in any significant way.
Oh I get you, and I agree. He can't just be a slappy though, that's all I was saying. Unless he is, in fact, Juan Pierre reincarnated.
