The Rockets made the playoff last year and this year..

#3 seed in the wild wild west and looking toward #2

    point them to the Record.

Hmmm... Father time plays many tricks on my memory.

I consulted Uncle Google instead and Morey said
    """
    July 18 2012
"We no longer had Lowry or Dragic," Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said in an interview with SI.com late Tuesday night, "and at that point we thought it made sense to offer him more money and increase our chances of getting him."

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...07/18/jeremy-lin-houston-rockets-daryl-morey/

    """

My point was that both the Rockets PGs were gone before
any contract with Lin was completed.

This article is dated July 6 2012 and there is no mention
of Lin coming over, but Dragic is already gone.

    http://wagesofwins.com/2012/07/06/what-the-heck-is-daryl-morey-doing/
    and
    http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterockets/2012/07/no-need-to-panic-morey’s-plan-is-genius/

July 4 - already mention of Goran back in Phoenix.

    http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports....-dragic-back-to-phoenix-for-free-agent-visit/

Ahhh... found something. It was July 2 or earlier.
    http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterocke...ur-year-deal-to-return-to-suns-leave-rockets/

Oh.. it says they made Lin an offer July 4 for 3 years/19M, which he declined.

And this article says Lin became a Rocket July 18 2012.
    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/19/s...rey-has-second-shot-with-jeremy-lin.html?_r=0

So even if Morey did was going after Lin, it was never Dragic or Lin,
as getting Lin was not a certainly.
Dragic left July 2 or earlier and Lin only came over on July 18.

First article had something about a gentleman's moratorium ending July 11th
where one not make an offer to a FA which the Rockets did not observe.

    Am just really thinking aloud.

Anyways, there goes 30 mins of googling :)

That's it. The only reason that Asik and Lin are coming off the bench is because Morey has a plan to lower the value of both the players so Rockets can re-sign them for cheap.....Good job, Morey...

don't let the bias blind you
take harden out and just add asik to the that 2012 team and we get a 6th seed.

this season, if lin doesn't play the way he has in 24 games, of his 42 starts, they would have lost many games. i doubt any of you people would like to take back those wins and exchange them for losses.

they contribute way more than some of you give them credit, only seeing the bad for whatever reason.

It is the same group of people who would talk crap about Lin and Asik whenever they got a chance. No matter what performance they put on. They trash Asik because they "think" Asik is faking his injury while in fact Ask has serious surgery before and he has given his all last year. No appreciation or respect for some one who worked hard for the team. Toxic.

The obvious insinuation with Lin and "marketing" is that he generates that magical Asian cash flow that goes EXCLUSIVELY to the Rockets, as opposed to the NBA in general. So far, I have seen zero evidence of this.

So unlikely you'd have both cos they upped Lin's offer from 19M to 25M
    after Dragic left.

Lin had declined the initial 19M at the time to think things over
as it was still early in the trade "window".

    again 20/20 hindsight
we missed the playoffs for a 4th straight year. we were rebuilding and definitely not contenders. Why would you give Dragic a potential 4 year deal when we just a mediocre 9th-11th place team in the conference?

With Lin it was a bit different. Remember the NBA is still a business.. Lin has the potential to sell more tickets, more media attention, asian sponsors/following, etc. We were still probably going to be a mediocre team, but Les would have be a mediocre team with Lin than a mediocre team with Dragic.

If we had Dwight and Harden to start then the story might be a bit different since it seems like Dragic may be the better fit on paper..

The Asik contract at $8.3 million per for 3 years was dead-eye hit by Morey, if taken in totality. It's just that Morey did better in getting Howard. This is a double credit to Morey. It's like he scored one of the prettier girls, then dumped her for a supermodel. And this player playa's still trying to have it both ways :)

Of course, if the articles takes it narrowly, in terms this point going forward (which is obviously unfair due to the balloon landing on the third year), then obviously not.

With the Lin contract it's more debatable. He might actually be worth $8.3 million per were he starting on a team without Harden. Obviously, you see the Knicks wanting to take the remainder of the contract back, even with balloon, even giving up a minor asset or two like Shumpert, if only they could do it in a face-saving way for Dolan.

yes, because asik would have to TRY to be unproductive on our team. All he has to do is stand in the paint and he's being productive for us.

granted its harder for lin, even this season, does anyone agree lin is playing up to his expectations that were set when we singed him for his 7-8 mil a season? No. Sure he's not playing terrible, but we're not getting what we paid for. Thats what makes his contract bad, not that he's a bad player because thats certainly not the case. There's no way we should have a 8 million dollar backup pg.

The alleged balloon payment hysteria was a little overblown at the time of Morey's deadline. If you trade for Omer early in the season, yeah he's due 15 next year but he's due like 4 million to play the last 60 games for you. Pretend he's worth 10 million, put aside the difference this year, and pay it next year.

Now that there's not much left of this year's salary, it becomes a bigger deal because instead of 1.8 years/19 million you're talking 1.2 years/16 million, and that's a bit harder of a hit. But let's not act like Omer's contract was untradeable from the very instant we signed Dwight.

Motivated Asik at 8.3 million/year cap hit is a steal.
