The bad contract is due to the 15m in actual pay off, instead of the cap hit.

Having say that, I still would have prefer Dragic's and his 7.5m per year with player option.

i always found it ironic that having lin and asik in houston rockets as an initial core group managed to win the interest of harden, and eventually carried the team to the playoffs.

i also find it ironic asik playing out of his mind with the rockets and getting houston the winning ratio they had last season allured howard, who would eventually be the key to kicking him out of the same said team.

they paid lin and asik big bucks to jump start the franchise and they did it. i guess it would depend on what you call a waste. jeremy's carried the team through multiple games, and if asik embraced his role as defensive anchor of the second unit, id say the contract was well worth it.

If Dragic's contract would've at all interfered with getting Harden/Dwight, I still don't think Morey regrets losing him.

Then along came the Houston Rockets. The Rockets had not called Lin at 12:01 on July 1, and had not been aggressively recruiting him. But when they finally reached out, the two sides agreed to meet in Houston on July 4. Lin met with Rockets coach Kevin McHale, who told him how well he'd fit into Houston's up-tempo, pick-and-roll offense.

Lin was already convinced of that, having watched Goran Dragic, a departing Rockets point guard, excel in McHale's scheme over the second half of the season. Dating back to before he was passed over in the 2010 draft, Lin had told people he felt his game was like Dragic's. It caused many to chuckle -- as in, "Why compare yourself to a reserve?" -- but Lin truly felt their games were similar.

While Lin spoke with McHale, Montgomery and Tanner talked to the Rockets' management. They spoke about the parameters of a deal, and Lin's camp left Houston believing it would eventually receive an offer. Conflicting reports had the Rockets expected to offer either four years, $28.8 million, or three years, $19 million. According to a source, Houston confirmed to the Knicks the size of the offer that had been discussed with Lin's representatives.

Such information, whether gained directly from Houston or indirectly from media reports, must have convinced New York, at least Woodson, that would be the Rockets' offer, because he told reporters at the Las Vegas summer league that Lin would "absolutely'' return, and return as the Knicks' starter. Media reports cited other sources that confirmed the Knicks planned to match.

Of course, the only official offer would be the one the Rockets actually presented to Lin (and to the Knicks, if Lin signed the offer sheet), and that one had not yet been finalized. Houston, whether spurred on by Woodson's comments or not, eventually offered Lin the maximum that it could in a three-year deal, giving him $14.9 million in the final year to bring the total to $25.1 million. Lin signed the offer sheet on July 13.

While Lin's reps didn't have to call the Knicks, they telephoned Knicks GM Glen Grunwald to tell him about the offer. After sharing the numbers with Grunwald, they asked him for a reaction. According to a source, Grunwald said the Knicks had three days to match and he'd let them know once they got the offer.

The funny thing with this is that him putting Asik/Lin on that list may look really stupid if the Rondo trade goes through. Then Simmons will have to face with the dilemma of either being wrong about Asik/Lin's trade value, or that Rondo apparently isn't as good as everyone in Boston thinks he is.

It makes me want the Rondo trade to go down even more.

Both are till good contracts at $8.3 million per. This article is nitpicking if they think fans care about how much taxes/salary owners have to pay. Cap space is the only thing that matters.

If Dragic is playing with Harden right now, you'd wish we had Lin instead of Dragic.

There is only on ball on the court, only one guy can dominate the ball all the time. It would be Harden either way.

Exactly this. Both help Rockets make playoffs last year when they were not excepted too.
Lin has help Rockets win some many games this year.
    So Let see his salary.

1st year paided 5mil - Help Rockets Get to Playoff should be paided 8mil.
2nd year paided 5mil - Help Rockets win so many games should be paided 8mil.

Lin already worth his value for first 2years and final year $15mil is what he truely deserves.

Is this guy r****ded? How are these bad contracts for houston? Houston only had to pay these guys $5mil each for $8mil of work the past two years. And houston might even be able to pull a fast one and get someone else to pay for the balloon payment! So yeah, that last year is bad but houston benefitted from the first two years so it all evens out.

Complaining about asik and lin's contract is like complaining about the shirt that you had to pay in a two for one deal and forgetting about the shirt you got for free.

If Dragic was still with the Rockets, he'd be the 6th man and now the #20th worst contract in the NBA.

Harden jump started the franchise not Jeremy or Asik

Harden would have still joined the rockets if we had just dragic and parsons

    Dwight joined harden and parsons

Heh, if we had Dalembert or Scola at center, we would not have made the playoffs last year, and Dwight would not have signed with us.

Their contracts make fair value hard to get, but at the same time, the media has a real chip on their shoulder of making sure that it doesn't. Most of those other guys are completely untradeable, you would literally need to give up a draft pick to get rid of Steve Nash for example.

It would be so awesome if both got traded to Boston (Simmons' favorite team) for Rondo.
