Having worked with PWC professionally, i can say that I am not shocked by 1) their incompetence and 2) their ability to not easily own up to their mistakes.
I thought he was one of the accountants putting a quick end to the mistake. I'm sure if it happened the other way around a bunch of haters would be screaming nonstop about some conspiracy. That guy just showed everybody how to own up to a mistake quickly, even at his own detriment. Wasn't he the composer on La La Land? Every presenter next year for sure will be doing double takes before announcing the winner. They have to read everything now.
They have the envelopes spread out on the tables on each side correct? It sounds like they need a little light that lights up the envelope that should be handed out next and only on the correct side as the presenter. And, you need someone doing the lighting from a computer (and, he needs a back-up in case the primary becomes incapacitated). If the envelope manager grab the wrong envelope, then a two-prong taser shoots at them and shocks them. If they pick the right envelope, then they get a "ding ding ding". If they don't pick an envelope in a timely manner (yes...need a timer countdown to kick in...also controlled by the computer operator), then floor opens up and swallows them where they fall into a water-filled box where the lid promptly shuts on them. Then, they are replaced with a back-up from the back-up envelope managers pool (one back-up envelope manager for each envelope per side...to be safe). Or, how about just have the presenter do a simple step...read the category on the envelope before going on stage with it? Celebrities can't be bothered to read the outside of the envelope when it is handed to them? And, all the celeb presenters go through a rehearsal...don't they? Just make it standard procedure that the celebs read the outside of the envelope to ensure it is for the category the celebs are there to present for. Heaven help us. These celebs are pampered SOBs...can't be bothered to do anything but salivate over each other.
Saw yesterday that the PWC accountant who handed out the wrong card was tweeting a congrats to Emma Stone right around the same time he would've been handing out the card. The tweet has been deleted since too.
Yes, hours later, but initial reports were they denied it being their fault. Of course they have to end up owning it to save face but their initial response was to pass the buck.
Lol the envelopes have the category on it. **** happens and that was a big **** up but I can't imagine an easier system than someone reading the envelope before handing it over. Don't over complicate this.
