I'm trying to decide between the two radio providers for my
    car/home. Any experience with either?

I like the techno/80's type and international music.

I really don't care about Howard Stern or any talk radio like that.

    Thanks!

XM has commercial free music too. Also if the merger does go down, it isn't like Sirius is buying XM, they will be one company so it won't matter which one you have.

If XM is allowed to merge with Sirius, it may not matter.
If XM is not allowed to merge with Sirius, it may not matter.

They both have "techno/80's type and international music". Flip a coin if that's all you're looking for. :)

See if they let you listen to the stations online for a while for free. They used to.

I don't have or ever used satellite radio. But I thought the whole premise and purpose behind it was radio without commercials. If they have commercials what is the difference between satellite and standard radio?

I understand the depth of programming is a heck of a lot more, but wasn't satellite originally billed as without ads? Did it start out without commercials, and then since they weren't turning a profit they decided to run ad based programming?

    I hate DJ chatter.

I want to slap the Morning Mash Up crew on Sirius.

There are zero commercials on the music channels. Once you hit the talk circuit the commercials come into the scene. The only talk I listen to is Stern, so it really doesn't bother me.

Once you give an extended listen to the playlists on the music channels you'll never consider FM radio again. Trust me.

BTW- I used to have both and I prefer Sirius by a slim margin. If it weren't for Howard Stern they'd be pretty much the same to me. You can't go wrong with either.

Not true. I hear commercials on the XM music channels all the time.

That's like 3 or 4 channels, all of which XM has another channel playing the exact type of music without commercials.

I believe Sirius listeners enjoy a higher fidelity, if that matters to you.

My wife and I primarily listen to channels 20-26 in the car ("hits"), which just happen to feature commercials. Of course, the only music heard on those particular channels nowadays is a combination of Nickelback, Kelly Clarkson, The Fray, Rob Thomas, and Gwen Stefani. (A few months ago the channels were ruled by James Blunt and Daniel Powter.) I wish XM had a channel exactly like 93.7 The Arrow. (Don't tell me Top Tracks is what I'm looking for, either, because it isn't close.)

Well I'm a Sirius only subscriber now and the channels I surf feature zero commercials, and I avoid the "hits" lineup. I dig the alternative 80s, grunge 90s, Classic Vinyl and Jams, Left of Center, Trance, Blues and early rap for the most part.

I'm pretty sure you owe me a cookie now. Or a pancake on my head.

Channel 26 doesn't have commercials and there is a top 40 radio channel on channel 30 that doesn't have any commercials, which plays the same music as channel 21 use to.
