He called the cops, when they came the guy said my friend was coming at him aggressively (he just walked up to the guy saying "excuse me, sir") and lied, the cops believed him of course so nothing he could do.

    Midtown is the worst

I go there often but never drive myself.

Its beyond stupid out there esp on a Friday/Saturday night. If you drink too much you call a cab right? If you do that in midtown there is a 99% chance your car will be gone the next morning...

And thats for all parking you can pay $6 bucks to park at the specs parking lot or CVS but after 3 they are coming for you.....

And obviously you call a cab and deal with the car later but its a shame they tow away peoples cars that did the right thing.....

I agree fully they are scum they drive crazy and if theres a smalll fender bender you can bet they will be 5+ tow trucks.....

Imagine you had this approach, and thirty seconds after you legally parked your car, you saw it on the bed of a tow truck.

Lesson learned. Next time anyone deals with tow trucks have your camera phone ready. If you're with a buddy, then multiple camera phones ready.

Why does the law protect these assholes anyway?

Sorry, but that's where the story loses me. Hooking up a car to a tow truck takes a considerable amount of time. I don't buy this whole "I walked a few feet away from my car and this guy towed it" thing. How do you not notice a guy trying to tow your car in the first place? You can stop a tow truck driver in the process of towing if they haven't hooked it up yet, and if you let your car get hooked up all the way, then you obviously were gone a lot longer than a few seconds.

I just think that there are undeniable evidences that proves the title of this thread, yet nobody seems to care. Would it be that hard to straighten them up a bit?

I've known a family who owns one of these tow trucks... or at least works for one. Most of the members of that family are douche bags, but that's beside the point.

A buddy of mine parked in a spot in HIS OWN APARTMENT COMPLEX for 20 minutes and got towed for backing into the spot instead of parking straight. These people are unbelievable.

MOST tow truck drivers are bad at following the laws themselves, and that doesn't mean they know how to enforce them... they probably just take orders and want the "best" outcome for themselves, just like probably you and me. The difference is that they are seen in a bad light... they speed and they don't listen to the customer... and if they had a heart, they'd be losing lots of money.

They should listen, at least, while explaining that it's rules or laws that they're following... either private or public. :(
Can you please describe at which location you were on the map below at the time of the "90 seconds", please?

I need to see where you were in relation to the TCBY, the Pappasito's, and your car, at the time of the ninety seconds.

Also, is there a sign posted in front of the TCBY that states that you cannot park there if you're not going in there?

It was between 60 and 120 seconds from parking the car, and walking to the entrance of TCBY where I stopped before entering and turned around to see the tow truck with my car "on it." He was lying somewhere in wait and jumped on my car as fast as possible.

I didn't know about the "chain clause" and to be honest, I still don't know whether or not he had the chains on the car, at any point. None of my pictures show anything where I can really see anything between the bed and the bottom of my car.

You have to understand that instead of playing lawyer at that time, I felt my best option was to wait for an officer to mediate the situation because the tow truck driver himself wasn't going to work with us after I called his proposed $72 fee a bribe. He was extremely rude to my girlfriend, was clearly going to continue to be uncooperative, and locked himself in the truck and took a nap. I wasn't going to prove **** to him about anything, and as it turns out, the cops also were not interested in the legalities or illegalities of the circumstance.

They told me to save it for civil court, and gave me lengthy, condescending explanations on the nature of civil versus criminal law. The officers said the only reason they came out was because the driver himself also called and reported that I was assaulting him. "This is a civil matter. I cannot legally make him take your car down. Are you asking me to break a criminal law and prevent him from doing the job he was contracted to do? The only crime here is you harassing the driver, do you want to go to jail?" That was all I was told by the police, so suffice it to say that they were also not aware of the specifics of the laws. I was powerless at the time.

"No, nope. I don't think she would make a good cop. I would be frightened to live in a town that she's the cop of, frankly."

The northernmost arrow is TCBY, and the arrow at the south edge of the lot is where my car was parked. Pappasito's/a's(?) is the entire property south of the lot in the picture. The only sign was a sign right in front of my car that said "Hey man don't park here if you're going to Pappasita's cause they will seriously tow your ****."

Well...yeah. I'm a huge fan of the San Jacinto Runnin Ravens. But that hardly seems relevant to this thread.

I guess there's really not much we can do unless we have substantial picture and video evidence of their assholery and are willing to go through the hassle of a civil court. Seems like the law enforcements and the tow truckers are both scums of the earth. Sorry for the generalization, I know there's a cop in this forum (but maybe he can enlighten us on this matter?).

IIRC you lost a bet back in the early years before us 2011ers were born and had to change your moniker, ya?
