I think the thought is if we can sign CWood to a value extension like 3/60 then maybe we could S&T with someone in top 10 and take back a crappy contract as well. Don’t see it happening.
Wood really has everything from a tools/skills standpoint to be an impact player in a winning team. Maybe the Rockets are holding out hope that he’ll eventually put it together mentally. Maybe they are really entertaining drafting Ivey?
Let's pump the brakes here, of course they will discuss an extension. If Wood really does like playing here and he took an extension similar to his last contract then that would be a good value for the team. It wouldn't necessarily effect who's drafted at 3 as a good value contract can be moved in a trade fairly easily.
It was "a talk". Of course they had a talk. They have to gauge where he's at. Even in a sign and trade they need to know what his expectations are to determine a median before discussing potential deals with others.
Fake trade proposal from heavy.com https://heavy.com/sports/miami-heat/christian-wood-trade/ Now, explain to me why Rox would want 3-years of DR???
Funny thing is that he went to throw the first pitch, then baulked and held it back. Then he pointed exactly to where he was going to throw it. Then he ever so slowly and carefully threw it just there. One of the Mariners guys saw it happening and came and stole the ball
Wood is a bit like Tmac , but without a good chunk of his dribbling / creation talent . Also tmac (in playoffs and when healthy ) gave effort on D . wood had about 3 or 4 good games throughout the year . I mean good as in he actually tried hard on both ends , was persistent , and was decisive. not enough . I don’t care that we were trying to tank . Kpj (for all his emotion and immaturity ) had at least 10 . Tate (despite less skill ) had 10+ . Green , sengun , jc , Gordon , all had at least 5. Wood is the guy whose Brain and heart are holding us back . It’s not about skill with him . sure he will stat you into a couple of wins . But he will also make it hard for your team to develop cohesion . He’s a cherry on top and we aren’t near a finished product . y’all know I love Tate . We should be getting HIM an extension .
So is this a rumor, a random thought, an actual confirmed story? All this discussion and I can't find anything. If it's a random thought, couldn't we just merge it with some other Wood thread?
What the Houston Rockets need to learn from the NBA Finals: defense wins championships The Rockets Haven't Committed to Defense, Yet The post-James Harden era in Houston has been all about stacking the asset deck to build a championship-level team. The team brought on Stephen Silas over his offensive vision, drafted Jalen Green over Evan Mobley, swung assets to grab Alperen Sengun, and trotted out Christian Wood as their starting center in the first season of their reboot. After one season into the process, the organization has firmly committed to the offensive end of the game. The decision to go this route isn’t a deathblow to their chances of ever building a championship team, but at some point, they will have to go all-in on defense, whether it’s through the hiring of a defensive-minded coach or bringing in defensive stalwarts through the draft, trade, or free agency. https://spacecityscoop.com/posts/wh...inals-defense-wins-championships-01g54v86fcn7 There is a difference between a guy who doesn't play defense vs a guy who cant play defense. I don't know which one Wood is, but if its later, I really hope we move on.
Rockets were going to talk to C Wood this off-season regardless. Try to get that 20 point 10 rebound player (per 36 minutes) to take lesser money in the extension than a max extension later. Under contract control for longer might be more appealing than a rental. And if he plays greater....then all the better. Wood shoots the 3-ball well and will open up lanes for Porter, Green, Sengun, Josh Christopher and Ivey.... ah i mean Banchero.
