A sign of things? Yes. A bad sign.

Comparisons to other all nba guys who couldn’t win alone is not a legit comparison.

We dislike Wood as an impact guy because he’s good at the things we don’t necessarily need him to be good at and terrible/unwilling at the things we REALLY need him to be good at.

No team wants to trade for a player and then have to overpay to keep him. It makes more sense to see if he takes a reasonable deal on an extension before trading for him!

Maybe an interested team is asking the Rockets to see if they can sign him to an extension for a certain amount before pulling the trigger….

As long as CWood doesnt get that max extension tbh it isnt a bad deal.

Despite how everyone wants him traded CWood is an asset, compare him to someone like Tobias Harris for example and CWood blows that dude out of the water. Its hard to get 20 ppg 10 reb big men with 3 pt range.

He is only 26 if the Rox can extend him to 18M or so thats still a massive win and tbh a very attractive asset.

Christian Wood is Channing Frye with more field goal attempts.

a team trading for Wood will already know what he’s looking for on his next contract if they’re interested in retaining him

they don’t need to wait for the Rockets to do anything…matter of fact, the other team would rather offer Wood their own negotiated extension than wait for Stone to add trade kickers or other things they might not like

Why would you have to overpay to keep Wood?

There's no evidence that Wood is in high demand around the league. Most of us here know his box score traditional stats are misleading. We're not the only ones who know this.

The pretzel logic that you have to lock Wood into a long term contract to make him more moveable - literally the opposite of conventional wisdom isn't really very convincing.

Just shows the organization has a plan.

Don't forget they are dealing with full information, everyone here is dealing with partial information.

How is his traditional stats misleading?

Wood is a good player, the only thing he is bad at is his defense which aint exactly rare in the league. Lots of front court guys are bad defensively Domantas, Tobias Harris, Nurkic, Nikola Vucevic etc

At his current contract CWood is a steal for a good team or a team with an established star already like Lakers or Portland. If he gets signed to a long term deal it will depend how much the extension is.

Just like the westbrick's of the league. Wood is another prime example of sorting out who actually has a positive IQ of the game and separates it from those who don't. It's pretty consistent with history based on the posts from the usual folks here

Yes we don’t know how the negotiations are going or why they are even taking place. This could be one reason a team would want you to extend him rather than trying to do it themselves. If he is traded before signing an extension, I think it will be because the team they are trading with wants to unload some players in order to give him a try out. I do think the Rockets should be willing to take on a bad contract or 2 even if delays our max cap space until 2024, if the positive assets they pick up outweigh that impact. For instance a two year contract like Hayward or Porzingus to unload Wood and Gordon for positive assets like moving up in the draft or future draft picks. We won’t be able to sign a premier FA until we prove our young core is viable to compete and I can’t imagine that happens before 2024.

If partial info means watching him play two years of weak basketball and quit on his team then partial info is all u need.

Yep, it doesn't matter that since having to trade Harden, Stone has only rebuilt draft assets, gotten Rockets to the point that that do not have a bad contract past this season along with having just enough contracts of various sizes to match basically any salary in a potential trade this season, drafted Green, and drafted three other guys who one or more may become good. You're right, signing Theis is unforgivable as there was no way he could be moved without hurting the Rockets team going forward.

Meh, no need to get worked up over this. The report didn't come from the team, the info came from Wood. He's putting it out there to keep his value. Who's gonna sign a player that even the worst team in the league doesn't want to keep?

I don't believe that the Rockets want to keep him. If they actually extend him and keep him, and continue to let him do whatever he wants on the court, they are certifiably insane.

yup. I mean the worst team in the league not having some bad contract past this season. yet still has guys like EG on the roster. hoooray

rebuilt draft assets that they actually gave away in the first place. awesome

lets have contracts of various sizes for trades that do not happen. awesome

He is a good player. Skill wise on the offensive end he could be great. But defense isn’t his only problem, his brain is too. He is often lazy, selfish, and does pout and hasn’t shown a real drive. He needs to be a killer mentally to be an all star which he isn’t but he also doesn’t have the positive, team-first attitude to be the insanely high end role player he could be (even assuming his defense never got better).

    Really? How so?

stone hasn’t done anything regarding free agents that remotely gives us confidence in that aspect.

    D Thies?
    Nwaba?

    G. Mathews is the only positive signing I can recall during stones tenure. He has a lot to prove..

Racks up huge trad stat numbers when the Rockets are down double digits in the second half and the other team is not contesting defensive rebounds and willing to trade baskets, not closing out on defense, conceding paint points instead of 3s.

I'm willing to bet he's the league leader in double double-doubles (notching a double -double at a point where your down 10+ in the game)
