I would argue that your compass might be a bit off and that the "right" has actually moved to the left and the left has gone so off the deep end that there is widespread support for a self described socialist. Of course the left has done such a good job of demonizing the right to where they have people thinking moderates like John McCain or Mitt Romney are "right wing crazies", hell they even have people (including some Republicans) thinking that Donald Trump is right wing despite a lifetime of evidence to the contrary. as to the reason for filibuster records, well that is how the Senate is supposed to work when the majority party won't work with the minority party. The system is set up to deadlock when there isn't cooperation. Well when a president comes in controlling the house and senate and has an "elections have consequences" mentality where he's not concerned about the view of the minority party....well they are going to have a lot of deadlock. Call it a failure of leadership.
Seemed like an interesting candidate a few months ago until I actually read up on him. His foreign policy is downright scary. Let's just hide from our enemies, maybe then they'll leave us alone. And I'm a fiscal conservative...but not to the extreme he is. 'Let the market decide' sounds good on the surface, but it's totally unrealistic. What if we had 'let the market decide' in September 2008? That said, I will probably vote for him because it's really just a protest vote by a pissed off Republican against Trump. He has no shot whatsoever of winning, so why not? Better than not voting at all, right?
You are the definition of confirmation bias. You have an opinion on one thing and you distort any information that is brought up in order to conform to it. Bobbythedelusional.
Perhaps put a bit more thought into your post and explain why you feel the way you do. Just shouting "CONFIRMATION BIAS!!!" isn't going to convince many without sharing what led you to believe that. If you think anything I said was inaccurate, say so using specifics. It wasn't a terribly long post, that shouldn't be asking too much. Work with me and I'll turn you into a decent poster yet!
If you lived in Florida, maybe. If you're in Texas, dont kid yourself. A vote for Johnson is not going to get Trump elected. Or Johnson.
I lived in NM when he was Gov and met him a few times. Interesting cat, but also a bit off. He's just not there sometimes.
Been the done that with tax cuts for the rich, deregulation, trickle down and all that. Just because you add some legalized weed, gays rights and a bit of a concern with privacy is not enough.
Seriously, Gary Johnson's fiscal responsibility is probably the worst thing about him. Get with the program Gary, if you aren't bankrupting the country, you aren't trying.
I do think that the US needs a third party...a "common sense", pragmatic party. (Of course, such a party probably would struggle to gain any significant traction due to being perceived as boring. After all, sensible policies and viewpoints are usually uninteresting to the average Joe and to the sensationalist mainstream media.) I really like some aspects of libertarianism, but there are other stances of their platform that are extremely problematic and just plain f**ked up. The Libertarians probably aren't the 3rd party we need. The reality is that there aren't that many people in this country that genuinely believe in extreme limited government. Limited govt and fiscal conservatism (including free market) are good up to a point...but one can take those beliefs too far. As for Johnson (who is actually pretty mild compared to the more hardline libertarians out there)...he has an oddball personality that mainstream society will have a hard time relating to...and for that reason alone he has no chance of ever sniffing the White House, even if he ran as a Republican or a Democrat. He strikes me as the kind of person that a lot of people (women especially) would find a bit creepy. I watched parts of last week's Libertarian town hall on CNN and came away thinking that the Johnson-Weld ticket should be flipped. That said, I would like to see Johnson included in at least the first debate...doubt it'll happen though. I don't think he's a bad guy, but some of his policies are just very unrealistic. As for Jill Stein...she's just a loon. The Greens are legit nuts. All of the active candidates in this election range from mediocre to horrible. The one or two decent folks who decided to run for POTUS dropped out a long time ago, early in the primary season.
That's exactly the problem. Responsibility is boring and the average American wants fun. Who wants to responsibly stay home while saving money for the future when you could be out making it rain in the club and buying the bar? Who wants to pay down the debt by cutting back on spending when you could be out offering free college and free medicine? The politics of "free stuff" will always win out in the end because the average voter is a moron.
I would Vote for Ron Paul However, I can't stand Gary Johnson and I can't wait until the Libertarian Party finally chooses a new candidate to lead them Until then, as far a presidential elections go Donald has my vote over Hillary, Gary or Jill
What can't you stand about him? I don't know a significant amount about him, tbh. He comes off very strange, but in a polite way, not a creepy way. I feel like he kinda talks in scales, like he starts from a low note and works his way up to the top of the scale, and then back down to the low note to finish. I don't know if I described that as well as I am envisioning in my head, lol. What specifically do you not like about him personally? Is it because he's a stoner? haha
It is also fun for the average billionaire to not pay taxes and then get free stuff like roads, a healthy educated work force, a clean enviornment and even little guys like Bobby to occasionally give their lives so the ability of the billionaires to make profits is kept safe.
Ever think about how lower tax revenues really work? Let's say there's less tax to pay for, say, road repair. So sometimes there's a pothole in the road and a vehicle gets messed up. Imagine a tire blows or even an axle breaks. Now the cost to repair this vehicle is pretty much the same whether you're rich or poor. A rich person gets a new tire or new axle no problem. A poor person is hit much harder by this and maybe can't even pay for the repair. Or, there's no tax to pay for public transportation. No worries for the rich guy: just drive your Humvee to work. Meanwhile the poor person needs 70 minutes one-way to take a bus route to some random location hopefully near a job. Or, public schools suck due to low funding. Rich dude: no problem! Send your kid to that white private school. Poor dude: screwed. Or, gasp! cops get paid low salaries so we have a low-quality police force. You like that, law-and-order rich people? You need to pay these cops to keep the poor people from robbing and raping you, right? Some of our tax dollars go toward not having a peasant class in America. We're getting there anyway, but I think it's in everyone's interest not to have an ignorant, degraded class of citizens.

He would be horrible for this country, and Jill Stein even worse. These people have no clue how the world works. That includes Trump. Hillary is the best amongst a sad group of candidate. They are all liars and such, but she is the only competent liar amongst them. You won't change this country at the presidential level - it will change when people stop being so freaking polarized and finally get around to compromising.
Seems pretty reasonable, the fire department is willing to sell fire protection to people outside of their service area for a reasonable annual fee. Those people who choose to pay said fee are given the service, those who choose to save the $75 bucks don't get the service. What is the issue?
