I mean Sampson was definitely amazing. Sad to see that career go down with the injuries. I really believed the Rockets were set for a future dynasty if it weren't for Sampson going down. Longevity and remaining healthy is definitely a skill set.
I still believe if Evan Mobley remains healthy he's going to be an amazing player and "the player" from the draft. But also glad to see Green coming around.
Excited to see what Stone does this offseason.

    Or Chet

I like the 3 & D of Jabari Smith going well with providing spacing for
    our facilitators (Green/Porter/Sengun/Wood/Josh Christopher) along
with defensive possibilities. I don't need him to be as much of a
ball handler as others want him to be. I just need a taller Tate/KMjr
that can shoot. Willing and not afraid to take high volume of 3's.

Chet is a greater version of Evan Mobley imo. Almost a tie defensively
with Chet much greater as an offensive option. Chet can create his own
shots and hit from all three tiers....al-la-Kevin Durant. Durant much
    more fluid though.
    ______________
I know it doesn't sound right; but I see Jabari as a better version
of Derrick Coleman and Chet as a cheap knockoff of Durant.
So why do I have a preference for this Derrick Coleman over
this Durant.....chemistry. Jabari is just the right spice to
    complete this fine dining meal.

Having said that I would take Chet or Ivey or Banchero and be happy.

If our basketball whisperer, John Lucas, can do this well with Tate, Kenyon,
Josh Christopher, and Jalen Green......I like any of the above mentioned
    joining this team.

*Side Note: it's not always about best player available. Every championship team
has 3rd, 4th and 5th options. Chemistry wins championships. Jabari fills in a lot
of holes with his versatility. I don't see one dimensional...I see a better Chris Bosh.
Who one a championship as a 3rd option without much dribbling.

Are we still on this? Mobley will not be a superstar ala KG or even a KAT so why?

He looks pretty amazing to me. I would guess he is a minimum top 15-20 player in the nba at some point.

what an interesting draft as teams like the lakers wind down these guys are next.

How do you feel about Rockets using a zone defense at times next year with:

    3-2 zone defense

    ..............................#.(rim)..................................
    ........Jabari........................C Wood..........
    .......or Chet
    ......or Banchero

    Porter................................................J Green
    ............................Mathews.............................

    (5- shooters from 3 offensively....?Banchero?)

    *********************

    2-3 zone defense
    make Sengun fans happy

    .................................#............................................
    Jabari................Sengun..................Wood......
    Chet

    ................Porter......................Green.................

I like C Wood as a help defender

I'll give this man mad props for visualization of his defense via text.

Though imo, Zone defense only works against garbage teams that can't shoot.

Well the teams using it successfully today mix it in with man to man.

Rockets could mix multiple type zones with man to man constantly.

    From 3-2......2-1-2......2-3......Box-&-1.....man-to-man.....Diamond-&-1.....1-3-1

Mobility brings many options....key would be keeping Sengun close to the
rim to help cover his flaws defensively......and utilize the length of Wood
with Chet/Sengun/Banchero (patrolling near the rim).
    Leaping ability of Kenyon/Green.

So when people have asked me about keeping Wood, this is what I've been
envisioning. At least Wood buys us a year for Jabari/Chet/Banchero to
    transition into the league.

If we're spending a top 3 pick on a Jabari/Chet, I'd want him to anchor the defense on day one (especially Chet). Keeping Wood around at best helps us win too many games, and at worst takes PT away from our 2022 Rook + Sengun.

It's insertion of Chet or Jabari or Banchero and taking out Tate/Kenyon more.
So I don't see taking away from playing time from Sengun.

The reason for not playing Chet or Jabari or sliding Wood to SF (in the case for Banchero)
is because of defensive purposes. A zone look covers that up. Position-less basketball
achieved as we can help the bigs stay close to the rim and not get exposed out on the
perimeter as much. Sengun gets tested like 15 to 20 times a game as a starter on
switches forcing him near the FT line and a fast PG burning by him.

And I'm not talking the opposition having 90 possessions and we play zone 90
possessions. Maybe like 25 possessions.....enough to cut the opponents
points per game from 117.7 per game to 105 on the average. Rockets are
dead last in opponents points per game and dead last with opponents
points in the paint with giving up 53 points per game in the paint. Zone
helps reduce that with twin tower tooth picks or allowing Sengun to stay
    near the rim.

It's simple mathematics on Sengun or Wood getting caught near the
FT line on forced switches and a faster PG burning by them and help
defense converging behind them and that PG kicking out to an
    open 3-pt shooter.....pitch and catch 3's -- vs -- how many 3's are
we giving up playing zone 25 defensive possessions?

Some teams like the Suns can shoot almost every player across the board
while the 76ers don't. So there is so give and take depending on the opponent.
Cavs and Toronto are showing thin-ish players on the front court can work.
Zone covers up a lot flaws of a weaker front court.

I could see a Box-&-1 zone on Phoenix....the one defender roaming and covering
Booker. Perhaps switching only for Booker when on the perimeter. Cutting Bookers
point total from 26.5 to low teens is a big deal when you also add reducing points in
    the paint dramatically.

    @Tuckankhamun

How would Chet or Jabari or Banchero anchor a defense when we switch everything
and they are forced on to the perimeter constantly?

Serious question? Doesn't a zone defense allow for such said anchoring of
the defense with less points in the paint and keeping our bigs around the
rim for protection of, said rim?

At this point nothing, let's just roll with our young-uns and build in this year's draft.

What's done is done. We'll see how the JG & Alperen strategy works in the long haul ...I've been a huge proponent of Mobley, seeing him as a transcendent player. But, Sengun is gonna be a world unto himself too. And, Jalen...while It was ugly for awhile, it''s obvious now that we do in fact have a big star on our hands. Then there's Josh...He's gonna be a top 2 way player in this League.. Garuba is probably locked into being a great role player for many years. In spite of not taking Mobley, Stone has done a masterful job.

If Chet can play PF next to Wood then I'm all for drafting him. But I like the thought of having another John Collins (Jabari Smith) type player with good defense next to Wood.

With any luck Wood won't be part of the equation next season.

Also how many times have we complained this year that Green wasn't getting garbage time minutes. I wonder what his averages would be if he did get those minutes. However, to be fair, there were a lot of garbage time minutes in Quarters 1-3 this year.

We would have to give them a few first round picks.

The long wingspan of Chet is tremendous, makes for a great help defender
for Wood/Sengun.....as does the long wingspan of Wood provides an excellent help
    defender for Chet.

The NBA can see what the Raptors and Cavs are starting with triplet
tooth pick lineup (Mobley/Markkanen/Jarrett) and it's a copy cat league.

I'm saying we will get our own cat and make our own copies.

    I respect your opinion....take care
