I have season tickets, I have the gear, I go to functions, I haven't missed a game, I love the team. BUT, they look absolutely hopeless out there.

You can be a fan, but still voice your displeasure with the team. They actually look worse than last season! If things don't change, we will get the #1 pick again.

I am a Texans fan by default. I moved out of the country just before the Texans began their first season, so I have never really had the full experience watching every game and bonding with the players. I don't have the mad passion for them like I do the Astros, Rockets and once had for the Oilers. But, screw all of this fairwheather stuff. Unless they hire Jerry Fallwell to run the team I'll support them no matter what.

Heh. I thought there were about 40 posts, and I had made a post I couldn't find. As it turns out, this is only further confirmation that I am an idiot, as I found my "post" in another window, with the "Submit" button still unpressed.

I don't believe in the concept of "true fans". To me, a game or a sports franchise are far too trivial to use terms or ideas such as faithfulness, truth, or heroism. They're my favorite team regardless, but if someone's interest wanes when the team doesn't do well perhaps he's just not interested in sorry football. Not an indictment on someone's character, IMO.

I am definetly a fan....still look forward to seeing them play on Sunday. Doesn't matter that they suck right now. I am going to give them some time with a new coach, new system, new everything basically....as sad as it is, i think they are still an expansion team in so many ways.

msn, I am talking about the ones who say: "We suck. I don't like my team. I am going home." compared to the ones who say: "I am watching the whole game whether we win or lose." It DOES say something about your character. Do you jump ship, or stick with the team? Your [their] choice.
Well, are you a Texans fan, or just coming in here to joke, freaker? :D Say it... SAY IT.

So far, I am with Stack24, thegary and bogey on their opinions on how they're fans. ME: I never say "[the team] sucks" or "I hate the [team]". NEVER.

Would y'all just answer if you're fans instead of coming in and being all SMARTY PANTS like RocketMan95? I still haven't seen an answer, man. Just answer, are you a TEXANS FAN or not? Simple question.

If you say: "I'm a fan, but..." ok, say whatever, but at least say "I'm a fan" in there.

EDIT: I am not even asking what went wrong on Sunday, or whom we picked is OK, or BAD, or GOOD, or whatever. Those are different threads. In this one, I just asked a question. If you justify it, fine, but say it: Are you a fan, or NO? SIMPLE.

I hate what the team does to me every Sunday (in terms of the depression), but I can't hate the team. Football was my first sport, and having a pro team back in Houston means that's where my allegiances lie. I just wish we had some competent people in the front office...

we're talking about sports, right? it's like you're asking people for their alligence to our country or something..... maybe you should take a step back and re-evaluate your priorities if those comments bother you so much.

So... are YOU a fan... or just a psychologist... or what? :D

Look, man. It's SIMPLE. Answer the EFFIN' question. Then you can chat with the rest of us geeky internet Nerds all you want. ;)

It doesn't bother me that people discuss football... in fact, I welcome it... it's just that some people come in here to discuss: "well, our d-line is blah... our Quarterback is effin' this and that.." but they never answer the goshfriggin' question. :p

I'm a fan, and I'm watching every game. I wish nothing but the best for them.

Count me in as a fan also ... I have faith that the organization will do the necessary changes that gets this team playing to their and our standards. It will be a bumpy ride but I'm not jumping off.

Cat, nice post (#424) in the [Official] Redskins @ Texans. However it will probably be falling on deaf ears because some posters are still stuck living in April even though it's almost October.

Sorry Luckyazn, I was thinking of "twoface." I thought you were the one who had "I hate the Texans for ever" in his sig. Yes, I actually went and dug around some old threads until I discovered I was wrong. I hate being wrong.

See, I disagree. "Jumping ship" is something far worse than leaving a football game with 9:45 left to go in the 4th quarter, or changing the channel early in the 2nd half b/c the game is long gone and both sides of the ball are plainly unwatchable. That's not a character issue. If some folks want to spend their time on other things, that is their business.

The Texans are my favorite team. My next favorite team is whoever is currently playing against the Cowboys. I also like the Titans and the Packers. But any time any football game gets unwatchable, I don't.

    It's just a game.

Sorry to double-post, but there is something else here: you're actually (imo) hitting on two separate issues.

Watching the whole game I've already hit on.

Gratuitous whining is a whole other story. I'm not down with gratuitous whining. Constructive criticism, yes. Stating the obvious ("we have no O-line," for example), yes. But "FIRE KUBIAK!!!!111" and "I hate this damn team because we should have VINCE YOUNG!!!!1" is stupid. And while it does not directly say something about someone's character, the odds are if someone whines gratuitously without bothering to check all the facts in one circumstance, he's likely to do so in others as well.

So, while the casual fan doesn't bother me in the least, the perpetual whiner is a real pain in the ass.

the texans simply being from houston makes me a fan, and i watch when i can but as other's have stated, my loyalties to them are a lot weaker than that of the astros or rockets.

the day the oilers left town was the day my interest in the NFL took a steep nosedive..... seeing as though i'd already left houston before the texans ever took a snap and the painful fact that we're just plain bad, the texans didn't do a great job of keeping my undivided attention. but there won't ever be a time in my life where i wouldn't root for them, regardless of how poorly we're playing.

I would put it this way. When we got awarded the 32nd expansion franchise, I was elated. Football back in H-Town! Though, with the exception of the initial euphoria with trumping the Pokes on opening night 2002, we have had very little cheer about.

Make an argument, that our talent base is perhaps the worst for skill level players across the board.

Despite, the grievous losing, the prior incompetent coaching and management, I still remain a fan because I love football. I love this town. There are REAL football fans here if you look hard enough. The passion is here, Kuby just has to reawaken it! I would like to see us actually play competitive.

This year may and probably will be painful. Imagine trying to steer a ship in the middle of a hurricane, that is our plight right now. Lots of house cleaning done, lots more to do.

If we dont win vs Miami, it may be several weeks before we have a chance to do so.

Nonetheless, I wear my AJ jersey to hooters and other sports bars and cheer when there is something to cheer about. I absorb the wisecracks from fair weathered jackasses in this town because, I know one day Kuby is going to get us to the playoffs but, lets face it he got handed a train wreck of a team.

In closing, I do wish for sometime in the near future that this team would actually compete and play like they care and give themselves and the fans a fighting chance.

    But, ...

As insane as it may be ... I'M A TEXANS FAN! No apologies.

Nothing has brought me more entertainment on sunday mornings like the Texans.

I haven't laughed so early on sunday since they stoped showing Benny Hill reruns at 2:30 am.

Yeah, we will see in the next few weeks, who will still be on this team. I have a feeling at least 6 players mostly on defense will get their walking papers.

Losing because the other team is head and shoulders more talented but, to not even produce any real effort is inexcusable! Kuby must confront that headon.
