My argument then was exactly what is happening now. He was already dinged. And he's very limited offensively to shooting. And his injuries were going to erode his defensive skills because he wouldnt be as quick, as fast, and as energetic with them and the combination of long term guaranteed money. He had already taken a step back defensively in 14-15. That continued throughout last season as well. I was all for giving him a fat 1-year deal with a second and third non-guaranteed decreasing salary. Something we could have gotten off of or traded away if he got hurt again. But not a 3 or 4 year deal. It was too much risk. And if he wanted a long term deal then sign and trade him for at least a high second. Shoot, that high second could be Kay Felder right now. On a multi year minimum deal. And we could've used the Bev/Brewer money to sign somebody better than them.

Fair enough, and again, i basically agree with everything you're saying here, i just don't think he would've signed a one year only guaranted...didn't the Kings and Knicks offered him an even bigger contract than us? At least i remember some rumors about this, not sure they were confirmed but...

There were rumors of that. He should've taken the money in the form of a sign and trade. We could've gotten at least a high second for him plus used the salary to match another trade. And kept our cap space available last summer for Durant plus Horford.

The contract was signed before last year started, prior to that he was injured only 1 time and managed to come back in like 2 weeks or so. If that one time is your basis for saying he's already "dinged" then were you also advocating for Clips to trade Griffin his rookie year? How about GSW trading Curry because of his bum knees? You are basing all your posts using hindsight and last year's disastrous campaign, obv if Rox had access to this information then they wouldn't have signed Bev and esp. Brew to their contracts. Brewer especially was a huge difference maker when the Rockets traded for him, nobody knew he would deteriorate so quickly because his play was so good the year before.

His deal is a 7 PER deal, and the long term contract actually offers LESS risk because everyone knew the FA market is gonna blow up like crazy in 2 years, making signing starters way more expensive (which is what we saw happening). You call him limited to shooting but he shot 40% from the 3 last year despite being injured and he's a 37% career 3pt shooter. Multi year minimum deal? Nobody is gonna take that deal please be serious dude Bev got NBA 2nd team defense honors before he signed his contract why would he settle for multi year minimum on his career year? 7M is good market value for what Bev brought to the table if you consider the hustle and energy he brought to the team in addition to his shooting and defense. If he was healthy we wouldn't even be having this discussion, and as I already said nobody could have predictred his knee injury would be so serious given he got back after like 3 weeks the only time he got an injury.

He just needs to rest up and be healthy, he'll be a good contributor to the team when he gets back.

I don't care what the Clippers do with Blake Griffin so long as he isn't traded here. My team is the Rockets.

Bev tore his right meniscus in his second season. They piddled around with it and didn't operate on it. He came back and has NEVER been the same. You can see it in his walking and running gait.

Anybody with a lick of sense knows you can't play professional sports for very long with a torn meniscus, much less professional basketball when your forte is perimeter defense where the knees are under tremendous stress, without something finally giving. Either the knee finally goes or you have to back off the intensity pedal, and transfer more stress to the other knee, which makes Bev less of a defender and puts his other knee in jeopardy.

And this is precisely what has happened to Beverley. He was damaged goods when we re-signed him. He had that torn meniscus which he had already come back from without surgery and his play was very spotty. And we hand him a 3-year deal?

Any sensible person that knows basketball and anything about the knees could see this coming a long time ago.

I like Beverley. And he played his way into that contract. No doubt about it. But.....we should have treated his contract like Pops treated Boban. Congratulations, you earned it. Go get it. We can't give you a three-year deal right now son. Instead we gambled that Bev would stay healthy and we could move him at the drop of a hat for value if we needed to. Bad gamble. Shouldn't have done it. Both Bev and Brewer should have been let go with us trying to capitalize on a sign and trade to get value for them last summer. We would be in a much better cap situation today with better options going forward.

Morey's own words:.."We're not the team that PAYS the Chandler Parsons (insert Pat Beverley), we're the team that FINDS the Chandler Parsons (insert Pat Beverley)."

Morey: Deciding between rehab & a surgical option. Both are measured in weeks. Long term, not worried. It'd be disappointing to have him out a bit but he's getting 2nd opinions & will make the best choice for him & the organization in the coming days.

This is what Houston gets for wasting our PG riches when we had Dragic & Lowry.
