Aside from Weatherspoon's big contract I think we did great! More scoring off the bench.

Doesn't NY have an overload of PGs already??

    Three questions:

    1. which guy had the most years left on his contract?
    2. what is the per year salary of both guys?
    3. did the Rockets just blow their Mid for this?

I can't believe we found someone willing to take Moochie. Spoon's numbers for his career 12 ppg, 7rpg isn't that bad, considering all the rebounding problems we are having.

This sure beats Rice for Amaechi and TE IMO. :D

I don't know what kind of shape Spoon is in, but he brings some toughness. A couple of years ago he went after Malone on the Jazz bench after he elbowed him. On a team like the Rox, where mid-range rebounds are available (i.e. between Yao/Cato and the jack-it-ups), he could pull down some serious caroms or at least more than MoTHC, Torrayeble, or Padgettissue. I just picked up Spoon for the bench of my fantasy team.

Thank God Moochie is gone....Anyone to push the tempo when Steve is out is a godsend.

    Wilks could be our Boykins.

Weatherspoon's a hard worker, I assume that's the attitude JVG wanted to bring to the Rockets. And he was pretty good when he played over here for the Sixers, though in the words of my friend Jesse:

"Hey... Did you know that Weatherspoon's still in the league?"

You call the Rockets sucker!? They get rid of a crappy PG with a long contract, for a PF with 2 years left on his contract who can be thrown into a deal? It's easier to trade a big guy with a longer contract then a PG with a longer contract, especially when the PG is horrible.

What a damn shame Moochie is gone before he had the chance to find a name for the bench like he wanted to do.....who gives a crap he is gone woohoo!

Seriously though when I looked up on the net and saw that Moochie was traded to New York I was so happy i did not even look or cared to see who we got in return. Then I calmed down a bit to finish the sentence to see who we got thinking it would be a New York cab and a hot dog, since that is what he is probably really worth. :D

I really think this trade was to put fear in to the minds of our back court mob. Rockets basically telling them that if yall don't play better yall are next to go. One of your goons is gone so shape up!

Good luck Mooch. He was a nice guy, but a horrible player.

Does anyone else think the Knicks are totally insane? They now have Ward, Eisley, Mooch, Williams at the point...

Why could we not get Thomas and/or Ward in this trade instead of Weatherspoon...

Oh well, I hope it is a start and there will be more trades coming. Not excited about Weatherspoon at all, but at least Mooch and Amaechi are gone.

But isn't it harder to trade Weatherspoon's contract as a throw-in to a better player than Mooch (like, let's say, Taylor or Cato) because it is a single, bigger contract?

I say we are stuck with Weatherspoon until his contract runs out.

If we had gotten Kurt Thomas - CD would have gotten an A for this transaction. This way, I am just pretty much indifferent.

Sometimes players changing locations can rejuvinate their careers.

Weatherspoon can not be any worse than our current castaways at the PF position.

If he plays like he can and is motivated, he may be a steal for us.

I'm pretty sure Tierre's in the NBDL and doing quite well, but I'm not 100%.

I think this is a good trade, and Spoon will produce more than Mooch or Meech ever did(Not saying much....Spoon may limit himself to 1-2 dribbles rather than 20).

Damnit...still fantasizing about Kurt Thomas playing next to Yao.

After reading JVG"S comments on our lack of rebounding being a factor in our loss to Seattle I got the feeling that moving Moochie, and Meech for Weatherspoon was a desperate move.
It doesn't seem to me that we have any good offers out there which could help us out unless we were to trade Yao or Francis which isn't surprising.
It looks pretty gloomy right now unfortunately.

You do realize that Kurt Thomas is way too good for Mooch + Meech, right?

about time. IMO the trade wasnt that bad. Ameachie most likely would of used the option on his contract (free money for him if u think about it) and mooch is signed a year long than weatherspoon.

Well Spoon is a JVG guy. When the Knicks signed Spoon, they were tossing up between Nazr Mohammed and him. JVG wanted Spoon, so he was signed.

Spoon can still board and he plays hard. You will laugh at how many times a game he gets blocked, probably more than any other forward in the NBA.

On our side, Norris will be asked to play back-up at both 1 and 2. We already have 3 PG's and Milos Vujanic in Italy. Ward can be brought out by Jan 10 for 2mil of his 6mil expiring contract. I'm guessing one of the following 3 things will happen:

    1/ Ward is brought out.
2/ There is a follow up trade with Ward and Othella or Doleac.
3/ Howard Eisley is brought out of the remaining 3 years on his contract.

Isiah has already said Meech will be waived, and hopefully we will sign Leon Smith to a 10 day on Monday, and maybe bring in Demarr Johnson to fill out the roster.

Capwise, you guys save about 1mil over the life of all deals involved.

Not a bad trade for us, but i would have much prefered a back-up 2/3. But then again, we did only give up Spoon.

I hope you do realise that you would not have gotten Kurt Thomas and Charlie Ward for Moochie and Meech?

What would you have given us in return for KT?
