Contract wise that would mean we will sign him for around 10 mil a year, which is what he wants from Atlanta. But I doubt the Hawks would do it. They have a decent team right now, especially in the East. PG-Bibby SG-Joe Johnson SF-Marvin Williams PF-Josh Smith C- Al Hortford I just don't see them letting Smith go.
Get Pachulia from their team. He will be a very nice 4 mil exp contract for us and save us roster space if we are able to obtain him. maybe something along the lines of Luther Head + Steve Novak + (Memphis 2nd Rounder) for Zaza Pachulia Atlanta would do this because their backup SG behind Joe Johnson is...wait for it...Salim Stoudamire...which means they basically have no depth at SG in any form. Luther, despite his massive playoff struggles, is a decent player during the regular season, and Atlanta projected to miss the playoffs next season, Luther will be a fine performer for them. The Hawks also have few players under contract for next season, which means they will want to fill up their roster cheaply and quickly. Houston will do this simply because Luther and Steve are not in their plans for the future and we want an expiring contract.
Luther Head is a Salim Stoudamire plus. I feel that the Hawks might want to go with a different type of SG. Some one with more size. Zaza is their backup center. They need him to help Al Horford who is a PF playing currently at the center spot. Novak has a very good outside 3 point shot and is tall but can he fit in with their run and gun style?
In another forum, someone reported that there were rumors that the Rockets were going to trade Novak for Philly s second rounder . I think that it may be true cuz Morey said that the Rockets were working in minor trades. Cant make a thread cuz I am a rookie.
Can you provide a link? It wouldn't surprise me if true. Us acquiring Greene essentially paved the way for Novak's departure and this appears to be a reasonable offer for both sides.
A Rockets fan in insidehoops reported it. I asked him to the link and I am waiting for his response. I will post the link as soon I get it.
The Novak-to-Philadelphia rumor could very well be something that started from a Sixers fan seeing Houston was looking for a "minor" move and due to that fact that they really need shooters, that might of been where that started from... ...but who knows, maybe this is true. As you can probably tell, I don't want it to happen.
I'm not so sure that Philly can trade for Novak without trading one of its players. The Sixers don't have any trade exceptions; and I think they used every penny of cap room to sign Elton Brand.
I don't know if this is correct or not but I read a post from an Insidehoops.com Philly fan that they got a 2.8M TE and a 2nd rounder from the Carney/Booth/1st rounder trade. I'm sorry I'm not good at putting up links.
You can't get a potential star for a couple of role players. The Hawks can get far better offers than that.
The purpose of that was to get under the cap to get a future star not to acquire a player. They didn't get enough with that trade anyway and are now regretting it. What do the Hawks get,a defender who can the corner three with an occasional postup who doesn't fit in with their style of play and a 6M plus expiring contract which doesn't help them at all.
Actually, I think the trade exception was used by Minnesota to acquire Carney (Booth could be traded using the Minimum Player Salary Exception), but Philly did not net a new trade exception out of the deal, since at the time the Sixers were under the salary cap. Teams under the salary cap cannot net trade exceptions; only teams over the cap get them. So, once again, I don't think Philly can possibly make a trade for Steve Novak without it involving a Sixers player.
