Let's Go Ahead And Get This Over With

-Trade Tracy McGrady & Chuck Hayes for Chauncey Billups And Richard Hamilton

-Trade Steve Francis for someone like Brad Miller

-Let Shane Battier give Donte' Greene some defensive lessons

    -Line up should be:
    pg. Chauncey Billups/Rafer Alston/Aaron Brooks/Bobby Jackson
    sg. Richard Hamilton/Brent Barry/Luther Head
    sf. Shane Battier/Donte' Greene/Steve Novak
    pf. Luis Scola/Carl Landry/Joey Dorsey
    c. Yao Ming/Brad Miller/Dikembe Mutumbo

-maybe do a 2 for 1 trade or cut someone.

That would mean salary dumping instead of a big trade at the trade deadline. It fits under the 2010 rule.

Some combination of Francis, Head, Novak, or Harris (non-guaranteed filler) for Ryan Gomes (S&T, BYC)

Minnesota's coach talked about 3pt shooting helping Al Jefferson so Head or Novak might appeal to them.

Going into next season there are at least 3 guards ahead of Francis at either PG or SG. Adelman plays a short rotation. The players on the bench Jackson and Barry were likely acquired with his input and the ones he will probably trust during the season.

Ditch the 2010 LeBron lottery chase and get feverish over Luol Deng instead?

If you are implying that we have the capability to get Deng relatively cheaply,I would say it's most unlikely that DM can pull it off. I'm almost certain that Chicago would ask for Luis as part of a trade since they are in need of low post scoring but they won't take "junk" expiring contracts along with it IMO.

We need to retain Landry if he is healthy along with Scola otherwise our 4 spot will be weakened.

IMO Battier+Scola would have to be included as bait. Its costly but then it's 3 franchise level players.

Just for some little guidance of what players Morey could go after/wants to trade:

    http://scoutingthenba.com/

The link provides a table showing a players value by "Moneyball" calculations.

Here's the Rockets and their values, how lower or higher their real contract vs. their estimate values (red = over their value by x amount; blue = under their value by x amount):

    Guards:
    Rafer Alston: N/A
    Steve Francis: N/A
    Bobby Jackson: 4 million
    Aaron Brooks: 0.5 million
    Luther Head: 2.5 million
    Tracy McGrady: 7 million
    Brent Barry: .2 million

    Forwards:
    Shane Battier: 4 million
    Steve Novak: .7 million
    Mike Harris: 1.2 million
    Luis Scola: 4 million
    Carl Landry: 4 million
    Chuck Hayes: 4 million

    Centers:
    Yao Ming: 1 million
    Dikembe Mutombo: 2 million

anyone got any good ideas for a deal for Rashad McCants + (fillers if neccessary)? I think he is tradable by the wolves since they just got mike miller and mccants probably wont be happy playing less than 20 mins per game.

Maurice Evans gone. Signed 3-yr deal with Warriors.

The Warriors have signed free agent swingman Maurice Evans to a three-year, $6.4 million contract, according to the Riverside Press-Enterprise.

Evans is a solid defender with three-point range (39% from downtown last season). His signing makes it unlikely the Warriors will match the Clippers offer sheet for Kelenna Azubuike. Warriors GM Chris Mullin has stressed the need for roster depth, in order to keep his players fresh, so Evans should get decent playing time backing up Stephen Jackson and Corey Maggette.

Another possibility for the "minor" move that Morey was talking about could involve trading Luther Head to a team with a large enough trade exception to absorb his salary. One intriguing possibility is Oklahoma City. The TBDs do not have many true guards on the roster (Watson, Ridnour, Westbrook, probably Miles); and some of the guys they have playing minutes at guard are really more SFs (Durant, Wilkins). Luther could provide OKC with a decent backup option at the SG spot.

OKC has two decent sized trade exceptions. They could actually use the smaller of the two to make a deal for Head. With Marcus Williams drawing a protected future first rounder, perhaps Luther could draw a similar type of protected first rounder (remember, they are owed multiple first rounders from Phoenix and San Antonio that will likely be late first rounders), or maybe just a future (probably early) second rounder.

Such a trade would reduce the glut of guards currently on the roster (Alston, T-Mac, Barry, Jackson, Brooks, Francis) while providing the Rockets with yet another asset to either use as sweetener in a trade deadline deal or simply utilitze themselves in the coming years.

BimaThug, I think the Rockets can clear up some roster space by moving some players to the Hawks. They are under the cap and need to fill up their roster with Childress gone and only 8 players currently on the roster. Getting rid of Head, or Novak shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I thought about that. Unfortunately, if you include the cap hold on Josh Smith, the Hawks are actually OVER the salary cap right now. Even worse, they have no trade exceptions. So any deal with the Hawks would involve some fancy maneuvering, including possibly the involvement of a third team (e.g., the Grizzlies).

    The Hawks are screwed.

The Hawks aren't in bad shape from a cap pov. They can exceed the cap to resign Smith and still be under the LT which is the real number. They can probably get rid of ZaZa and get a te if they like. What they must do is put a price on their young players like Smith,Williams, and Horford. Also, if Law is really pushing Bibby, u could let Bibby go at the end of the season. Smith is a 10m guy, Horford is 9m, and Williams is 7m type of guy. They lost Childress who I think they're going to miss a lot.

    Ditch Buddy Baker.
