Incoming Players Vince Carter 6-6 SG / SF from North Carolina No games yet played in 2007/08 New Jersey recieves: Mike Harris 6-6 PF from Rice No games yet played in 2007/08 Steve Novak 6-9 PF from Marquette No games yet played in 2007/08 Chuck Hayes 6-6 SF / PF from Kentucky No games yet played in 2007/08 Luther Head 6-3 PG / SG from Illinois No games yet played in 2007/08 Bobby Jackson 6-1 PG from Minnesota No games yet played in 2007/08 Due to New Jersey and Houston being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. New Jersey and Houston had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. IT WORKS!!!! NETS ARE ON A FIRE SALE SO I BET THEY WOULD DO IT THEY GET A SHOOTER IN LUTHER HEAD A VET BACKUP PG BOBBY JACKSON AND 2 HUSTLE PLAYERS HARIS AND HAYES ! SO WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK ?????
Rockets are waiting for the major free agents to sign like josh smith so they can make this minor trade to reduce the roster.
Found this on a Magic website. http://mvn.com/nba-magic/2008/06/03/off-season-plan-shooting-guard/ Shane Battier of Houston could also be available, and that would be ideal in my opinion. Again, it would take Turkoglu, but this makes the most sense of any trade thus far. Orlando would get one of, if not the best man-on-man defender in the NBA, and he could lock down almost any guard or forward that comes his way. He is also an accurate three-point shooter and would fit Orlando’s system perfectly. If the Magic could trade Hedo and J.J for Battier and the bruising forward Chuck Hayes, Orlando would be filling to huge needs. It actually works money wise. Would you do it? Turkoglu knows Adelmans system well and could be that 3rd scorer we have been looking for.
We all know that the Rockets will have to give up quite a lot to get a 3rd scorer for example, but we need to add another scorer while retaining Battier's defense.
no idea if this has been brought up but: Luther Head Steve Novak for Rashad McCants works in the realgm trade checker, so maybe Morey can convince Mchale to do that. It would bring in a very good scorer off the bench and for a pretty cheap price too.
This has been brought up numerous times, but its still good to see it mentioned again. I like this trade alot, but probably we would need to add in Memphis 2nd rounder to it to make it more likely. Now they just got Mike Miller, McCants is rather redundant and can be replaced by Luther as the backup SG. We wouldnt really need more draft picks in the near future as we have no time for projects anyways while Yao and Tracy are in their prime years. Trading away our Memphis 2nd rounder wouldn't hurt much. Luther Head Steve Novak Memphis 2nd Rounder for Rashad McCants

trade 1. http://www.nj.com/nets/index.ssf/2008/07/nj_nets_agree_to_signandtrade.html Marcus williams could be had by using the trade exception from Bonzi's deal. Marcus williams is nothing special, but he does have a few things that seems interesting. His a 23 year old PG that stands at 6"3, 205 Ibs. His 3p shooting have improve to .38%. With bjax going to be used as a trade bait, SF3's health still a major concern, and rafer is starting to show signs of wear and tear. The PG spot is looking abit thin. He could be have for nothing, only problem is that rox is having problem creating roster place for him. Trade 2. Bjax, head and wink wink deal for landry for G wallace. Wallace miss a good part of last season due to injury. They currently got 11 players(including Wallace) under contract, and expected to sign up okafor to long term deal. They need a backup PG, a backup SG and a backup PF(current backups - boykins which contract have already expire, matt carroll and their back-up at the 4 includes a sophomore playing in the summer league, a veteran whose contract have expire and sean may with his weight and injury issues), while Adam morrison is coming back from injury. trade 3. battier for hedo.
Here's one that'll make your eyes roll back into your head. Trade #1 Houston sends Battier/Bjax/#1 pick to Sacramento. Sacramento sends Artest/SAR to Houston. SAR has a bad contract for a player that is all washed up. He's still owed 2 years @ $13.0 million. Bjax only has 1 year left @ $6.0 million & would allow Sacramento to use his expiring contract to pick up a player they want at the trade deadline, or just let him drop off at the end of the year to save $6.6 million next year. It's my opinion that Battier & a #1 pick, along with the salary cap relief, would be good value in exchange for Artest. Houston would get the 3rd scorer they want & not sacrafice any defense. The bad contract of SAR will drop off the books in time for the 2010 free agent feeding frenzy. So, to get Artest, we give up Battier, our #1 pick next year, & take on an extra $6.6 million in dead salary in 2009. Would ya' do it? Trade #2 Houston sends Battier/Hayes/Bjax/Memphis 2nd round pick to Sacramento. Sacramento sends Artest/KT to Houston. The reports have been that Sacramento has been trying to include KT's bad contract in any trade involving Artest. KT is still owed 2 years @ $16.5 million. As in the other trade, Bjax is owed 1 year @ $6.0 million. Hayes would be considered an upgrade to their PF position & would provide an affordable backup when the young players are ready to step up. In this trade we could substitute Francis's expiring contract in place of Hayes, if they would prefer more cap relief. In this scenario I believe that Battier & the Memphis 2nd round pick, along with us taking on KT's bad contract would be good value for Sacramento to trade a vocally disgruntled Artest. Again, Houston would get the 3rd scorer they want & not sacrafice any defense. The bad contract of KT will drop off the books in time for the 2010 free agent feeding frenzy. If KT can stay healthy & rediscover his game, we might've made a steal. So, to get Artest, we give up Battier, the Memphis 2nd round pick next year, & take on an extra $8.5 million in salary in 2009. Would ya' do it?
Morey intend to get no other roster except artest. At first ,artest is not sure to do better than shane in our team, seacondly, battier is of the most hardiness in our team, but artest always got injuried.we have sufficient injury, giving up our only entirely healthy will never gonna be a good choice. To get artest ,we don't have to aquire their trash contracts like SAR and KT's.just scola and brooks are enough to trade artest here.It 's meaningful to retain battier who is quite efficient yet with a rather low salary.we may trade shane for some good rosters other than artest.why must we trade scola? some euro clubs offer scola 15m per year, but rockets just give him 3m per year right now and will not give him more than 10m at most after his present contract expires.
I've heard some weird trade options that are not even worth commenting on but this one i absolutely like. The only thing is there is no way the bucks would give up Redd for nothing at all. He's worth more than that but how awesome would it be to have a starting lineup full of olympians? Sweet as hell. I would hate to part ways with tmac tho.
I like either trade because we wind up with Artest. What I can hardly believe is that I think I like KT or SAR. How bizarre is that? However, I don't think Morey would ever pull the trigger on a Battier trade because then he really looks bad in the Rudy Gay trade. The Pacers are very unhappy with Shawn Williams, a SF with good defensive and offensive skills who can play PF at times. In the RealGM trade checker, Williams for Luther and Mike Harris works. The Pacers get another outside shooter and a tough guy for their problem child. We get a young prospect project who may turn out to be a gem for players we can't really use. However, with the drafting of Donte Greene we really need a SG more than anything. Why, oh why, did we let Dallas snap up Gerald Green and New Orleans get C.J. Miles? However, no one has made an offer to restricted FA J.R. Smith of the Nuggets. He could be a stud as SG in Adelman's system. I'd trade Battier for him because that would move T-Mc back to SF. Again, Morey doesn't have the cojones to pull the trigger on moving Battier.
I think that Morey will not absorb bad contracts to get good players. I would bet against any Artest deal involving Kenny Thomas. Now I have no basis for saying this, but Morey seems like an astute business man, often refering to trades and aquisitions as "assets". Good buisiness men don't get that risky. My hunch is Morey will bundle up our low value bench players (Head, Novak, Hayes, etc.) and ship them off for an expiring contract ala the proposed Jeff Foster deal from another thread. This creates room for the abundance of young guys we have coming in (Dorsey, Greene, Harris, heck maybe even Barrera and Leunen). Then our splash comes at the trade deadline when we have somewhere in between 10-15 million dollars in expirings without even having to give up Battier. If no one is available at the trade deadline which would fit into our system, we would have a ton of cap space for the free agent class of 09 and 10. IMHO the future is looking good for the Rox. All hail Morey.
Kenny Thomas is not the holdup. His contract is an expiring contract in 2009. I don't think Morey would mind taking on his contract as long as we could stay under the lux tax. The problem with Sac Town and Artest is Sac wants too much talent back and they are holding LA and Houston hostage. LA and Houston are the two teams that Sacramento does not want to deal with. I don't see either team acquiring him short of Artest pitching a fit and not being willing to agree to an extension with anybody else.
I'd have to say that the Gay/Battier trade is water under the bridge. I liked the move at the time & I'm still happy with it. Who's to say that Gay would've put up anywhere near the same numbers here? In Memphis, he only had Mike Miller to compete with for shots & now he doesn't even have to do that. He took 64% more shots (1,354 fga) last year than the next closest player on the team (Miller @ 824 fga). In Houston, he'd have had to compete with Yao & T-Mac for shots. Add to that the fact that Rafer (he likes to shoot too) might not have given him that many opportunities. I'd think it's safe to say Gay might not have gotten more than 600-700 fga's. Thus, dropping his ppg back down to his rookie season average (10-11 ppg). As long as he keeps his head on straight, Artest would be an offensive upgrade over Battier. Either one of, SAR or KT would be an effective backup PF for the next 2 years. With a PF crew of Scola, Landry, KT, & Dorsey, that would allow us to package Hayes & trade him for a starter/depth at another need position (PG/SG/C). I'm intrigued by JR Smith as well. I wonder if a package of Hayes/Head/Novak would convince Denver to do a S&T? Denver's PF position is in shambles at the moment. Hayes would be a very effective player backing up Kenyon Martin & effectively replace Najera. Head & Novak would give them more offensive fire power off the bench for their no-defense playing offensive game.

Artest would be an offensive upgrade over Battier, but KT or SAR can't be expected to be effective backup PF's because of their injury status.Hayes can be a replacement for Najera. Kleiza is a good outside shooter and is not a liability on the floor unlike Novak which makes the latter redundant, and J.R.Smith is more talented and a superior player as compared to Head. Greene will have to compensate for Battier's offensive deficiencies. The Rockets didn't get enough for the 8th pick, otherwise you wouldn't be asking to replace him with Artest. My opinion is that Ron is too unreliable for us,otherwise an Artest for Battier as part of a package could be useful. I'm almost certain that they would ask for Luis as well, which would be harmful to us IMO.
Plus Artest is a free agent after this season. It's kinda like the Astros and Jason Jennings. We give up talent and lose the acquired player to free agency. (not that we wanted to keep JJ)
One of our problems is that we have too many players on the roster especially in repetitive spots like Point Guard and Power Forward. Luckily we have 3 expiring contracts in Jackson, Francis, Head and Novak so we either trade them for another player or have cap space at the end of the season. This is one trade (that will not happen) but I think it would be a great move for the Rockets as a way to clear even more cap space at the end of the year and to get our roster trimmed down this season. This is just a fun trade, check it out: Houston Trades: - Rafer Alston (2 years)-----------------> Replaced with Bibby - Chuck Hayes (2 years)----------------> Replaced with Dorsey - Bobby Jackson (Expiring Contract)-----> Replaced with Brooks or Francis - Luther Head (Expiring Contract)-------> Replaced with Barry - Steve Novak (Expiring Contract)-------> Expendable Atlanta Trades: - Mike Bibby (Expiring Contract) Bibby is obviously still better than Alston and as we all know was Adelman's star player who he molded perfectly to his system. At the end of the year he has a $15,225,000 contract coming off the books!! That doesn't include Francis' $2,634,280 contract coming off the books as well. This turns into $17,859,280 in Free Agent play money. We could probably resign Bibby for $7-8 million if he proved his ability to still run the system and we still have $10 million dollars plus the MLE to spend on Free Agents. The new Roster would be trimmed down to 13 players right now, and would look like this: Point Guard------> Mike Bibby_______ Aaron Brooks______Steve Francis Shooting Guard--> Tracy McGrady____Brent Barry Small Forward---> Shane Battier_____ Donte Greene_____Mike Harris Power Forward--> Luis Scola _______ Carl Landry_______Joey Dorsey Center----------> Yao Ming________ Dikembe Mutombo What I like most about this trade is that it clears off the dead weight of players like Head and Novak. Every single one of the player on our roster now have either made a name for themselves in this league or have a potentially bright future ahead of them. I believe Head and Novak don't have much more to look forward to than what they have already done. Hayes has reached his peak of ability. Alston reached his peak a couple of seasons ago in Toronto and Jackson reached his peak about 5 years ago. Granted, Bibby and Francis are way past their primes but we are talking about money here and players who can still perform. Francis may or may not be able to play this next season but he has always been better than Alston and Jackson. If he plays at 60% of his old self, you still have one hell of a player.
