Without reaching too much I think this is something the Rockets can do if they wanted to: Hinrich, Brooks, Francis McGrady, Barry, (Cassell/Green/Newley)* Battier, Greene, Novak Scola, Landry, Dorsey Yao, Zaza, Deke Alston + Jackson (expiring) for Kirk Hinrich Head (expiring) + Hayes for Zaza Pachulia (expiring) + draft rights to David Andersen Use up to (full MLE - 900K) to re-sign Carl Landry Sign Brent Barry for the vet's min for 2 years (non-guaranteed/team option) Use remainder of MLE (900K) to sign Joey Dorsey & Brad Newley to rookie min for 3 years (non-guaranteed/team options) *If Sam Cassell can accept the vet's min, sign Cassell instead of Newley. Otherwise if the Gerald Green rumor is untrue substitute, sign Green instead of Newley Save LLE for next season. BTW I wasn't intending a Jazz move. I only just noticed it now. Purely looked at it from the view, who's on the trading block?, what could the Rockets offer to get something done?
i wish... richardson is their goto guy for the bobcats. we could have gotten him last year for the warriors...
I was thinking the same thing, too bad they probably want to have both. Another team to look out for if they get him. I would take Maggette or Turkoglu over Battier all day because of their offensive presence. A plus of getting Turk is his ability psyche out the Jazz' turk
WE CAN STILL GET ARTEST!!! Looks like he might not be opting out, which means Sac can do a sign and trade with him. Which is better for us since we have more tradable assets than cash right now. http://www.sacbee.com/100/story/1049033.html
F***!!!! Is Luther Head still on the frickin roster??? This thread needs more Head trade proposals and less Artest/Arenas/Maggette/etc/etc dreamcasting I don't care if the best player we add this summer ends up being Wang ZhiZhi as long as Head is going going gone!!!!
I wouldn't mind seeing the off-season shape up something like this... - Re-sign Carl Landry to 3 million of the MLE - Sign Chris Duhon for the remainder of the MLE (~2.8 mil?) - Do a sign and trade with the Clippers. Bobby Jackson and Luther Head's expiring contracts for Corey Maggette. That would allow us to pay Maggette up to about 8.5 million in his first year. I think he'd have to be interested for that much. The Clippers might like it because it gives them expiring contracts adding up to 6.8 million, which is much better than the nothing they get if he walks. As sad as it is, Jackson would probably be their 2nd best PG too. As for the Rockets, they like it for obvious reasons. - Re-sign Dikembe for either the veteran minimum or a portion of the LLE...whatever makes more sense in terms of the cap. - Cut Woods and one of either Novak or Harris. Alston / Duhon / Brooks McGrady / Maggette (6th man) / Francis Battier / Harris or Novak / Greene (hopefully the primary backup by season's end) Scola / Landry / Hayes Yao / Dikembe / Dorsey
I actually like your plan, but I would think you have to add more value to that deal, for the Clippers to do it. You got to think that other teams can offer them a lot more then just Bobby Jackson and Luther Head. I think I read some where that the Suns offered Barbosa. Even if Head, and BJ are the best LA can get. Wouldn't it make more sense for them to just let Maggette walk and get 8mil+5.2MLE in cap space, rather then having to pay for BJ and Head for a season. Particularly this season where only a few teams have cap space and you have guys like Josh Smith, Iggudala, Okafor, Artest, Antwan Jamierson, who might be negotiated for around that price.
That s what we should do in this offseason: 1. Resign Landry with the MLE 2. Trade Battier, Brooks and Head for Artest. 3. Sign Pietrus with the rest of the MLE OUR TEAMS FOR 2008-2009: PG: Alston/Jackson SG: T-Mac/Pietrus SF: Artest/ Greene/Novak PF: Scola/ Landry/Hayes C: Yao/Dorsey/Mutumbo THAT S A HECK OF A TEAM!!! WE WILL HAVE GREAT CHANCES OF WINNING THE CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
We should go after Ryan Gomes 6-7 forward from the TWolves who is a restricted free agent this year. http://www.nba.com/playerfile/ryan_gomes/ His career avg is around 11pts, 5 reb, a overachieving player with a very polished game, can play both forward positions. Would be a great guy to bring some offense off the bench. Here is why I believe he will be a realistic option for us to target. 1) Currently there is not a great demand for SF in the league, especially with guys like Artest, Maggette, Childress, ect already flooding the market. So it will be unlikely that any team will offer him close to the MLE. 2) He will be expendable because the Twolves are already clogged with forwards, Corey Brewer, Mike Miller, Kevin Love, Kirk Snyder, Craig Smith. Thus its a very realistic option for the Twolves not matching what we can offer, or a sign and trade since they only have 1 point guard on their roster.
I agree that Gomes is definitely a player worth going after. However, I seriously doubt that Minnesota will let him go for nothing. As long as Gomes doesn't sign a ridiculously expensive offer sheet, I bet the T-Wolves match. He was their starting SF/PF for most of the season and was one of only a handful of players for them last year who didn't embarrass himself. I also think he is viewed by T-Wolves management as a valuable part of the package they received in the KG trade. They will want to hold onto him.
Like rz04 point out, the Clips have no incentive to trade Maggette (already a free agent) for just expiring contracts of mediocre-to-subpar players. Remember that the Rockets would be dealing with Donald Sterling, who (except for one summer of spending) is the biggest cheapskate the NBA has ever known. However, I couldn't agree more about Chris Duhon. This guy is a perfect fit for the Rockets. He is a pretty good defender, a decent 3-pt shooter and competent playmaker. This is a guy who fought his way in front of two lottery picks to start much of the past three seasons for the Bulls. The red flag on him, however, is that he likes to party a little too much. I don't know if Duhon would sleep much in Houston, home of the world's best strip clubs (or so I hear). That being said, I'd definitely take a chance on him as an unrestricted free agent. Here's hoping that Shane Battier can get his old college teammate to join up at a discount.
according to LAtimes, Maggette and Brand both opt out. Can we go after Maggette? He will be a great addition to our team.
So will Brand, Artest, Josh Smith....... Too many people on this board think that just because someone can be a great addition doesn't mean its possible to get them.
