Question: If we think Head sucks and can't wait to dump him on any sorry team, why do we think other teams will see him as a "young, sharpshooter" who can replace a good offensive player? If he fit that description, we wouldn't be jettisoning him off somewhere. Talk about overvaluing our own players..
Three trade rumors I am hearing from my coworker (her cousin is a top agent and is currently dating Monta Ellis... she's been a pretty reliable source): (1) Houston trying to convince Memphis to take Carl Landry instead of Luis Scola in a deal that would bring over Mike Miller and the 5th Pick. Houston Sends: Carl Landry (S&T), Bobby Jackson, Luther Head, 25th Pick and Future 1st Protected. Memphis Sends: Mike Miller, 5th Pick, and Brian Cardinal. The snag is that Memphis insists on Houston sending Luis Scola instead. Houston is supposedly VERY HIGH on Joe Alexander. Morey is debating whether Joe Alexander can contribute effectively at PF/SF if he were to move Luis Scola. Memphis is making a serious effort to purge bad contracts from their payroll and is attempting to sell the team to Christian Laettner & Co. Memphis does not expect anything compelling to be available at the 5th pick. (2) Monta Ellis and Al Harrington are quietly requesting a trade to LA Lakers. LA was working out Monta during the NBA Finals. Golden State Sends: Monta Ellis (S&T) and Al Harrington. Lakers Send: Lamar Odom, Trevor Ariza and Jordan Farmar Golden State is hoping that either Brandon Rush or Nicolas Batum is available at 14. If either fall to 14, it will all but consummate the trade. (3) Miami is trying HARD to get both Beasley and OJ Mayo and is dangling Shawn Marion and is open to taking on bad contracts since Jason Williams, Ricky Davis and Zo's contracts are off the books. Minnesota is trying to move Antoine Walker and Marko Jaric for the 3rd pick. Deal breaker is that Miami is also trying to rob Minnesota of Corey Brewer. Minnesota says Greg Buckner or no deal. Miami Sends: Shawn Marion Minnesota Sends: Antoine Walker, Marko Jaric, Greg Buckner and 3rd Pick.
Been discussed before, but it seems highly unlikely that Landry could be included in a deal like this, given that Memphis has to want him, Houston has to want to trade him, Landry has to want to sign with Memphis, for the amount that makes the deal work, and the deal would have to take place after the draft. i could see something like this being discussed with Scola, but unless I or realgm are wrong, that trade doesn't work financially (not saying other pieces couldn't be thrown in though).
As much as I like Scola...I would rather get rid of him and keep Landry. Because Landry is young the Scola and he is more athletic than scola
I was trying to look at contracts (besides Patricia's site) and found that Landry is listed as a team option on HoopsHype for '08-'09 at $711,517. That has to be wrong. Miller is making $9 million next season, BTW. http://hoopshype.com/salaries/houston.htm
I find this VERY unrealistic. Why would Minnesota want to get rid of Antoine Walker, when he is actually a 9 million dollar expiring contract? Greg Buckner is only one year from becoming an expiring and lands on the lucky year of '10. Plus, Marion's reasons for wanting out of Phoenix last season was because that the Suns would not give Marion the extension that he wanted, now Miami won't give Marion his large extension he wants. So why would Minnesota, a rebuilding team, want to give an aging athletic-oriented player a multi year extension that would ruin their cap space for the future? All this while still giving away a potential all-star/superstar in Mayo.
If Donte Greene is still available at no.22, do you reckon we should make the following trade? Houston gets: 22nd pick JJ Redick Orlando gets: 25th pick Chuck Hayes And maybe Cash or a future second rounder from Orlando. As Chuck >>> Redick and we're only moving up 3 spaces. I am sure both sides would love this trade. Its a win-win situation. Orlando has a huge hole at PF and Chuck Hayes is one of the top defenders in the league. They are high on Courtney Lee and Lee will surely be available at no.25. Houston gets the 22nd pick to pick Donte Green securely without Jazz to ruin our hopes. I'd love for Chuck to stay but its obvious he is expendable now we have Scola and Landry. Comments?
Maybe Steve Francis and cash considerations instead of Luther Head. Shrug. Dont kill the messenger. But I would assume moving $11 Mill off your books for every year for the next 3 years is kind of a big deal. Thats 2 players eating up a quarter of your salary cap in Marko Jaric and Greg Buckner... thats alot for people that can barely break into the rotation. As for Marion, I dont think its his choice. I think Minnesota is more interested in clearing long term contracts... after this deal the only multi year contract remaining is Al Jefferson's.
Am I the only one who doesn't feel like giving Chuck Hayes away this summer? With Landry's status in flux, I would not want to trade our best post defender away, only to be left with Luis Scola as our only PF worthy of the rotation next year. If we were to somehow lose Landry to free agency (either by committing full MLE money to a free agent or if another team offers a full MLE deal to Landry that the Rockets don't want to match), I would be okay with a PF rotation of Scola and Hayes. Luis will likely have a better year in 2008-09 and will get more respect from the refs, meaning that he'll be able to stay on the floor longer. Having a great defender like Hayes in the rotation is fine by me. If we HAVE to trade Hayes to get a deal done, I'll understand. However, I wouldn't be jumping to trade him. Not with that very affordable contract for the next two years, with a team option for a third.
With Yi Jianlian traded to NJ, how about a reunion of Carter and Tmac? With Yi Jianlian traded to NJ, how about a reunion of Carter and Tmac? NJ is rebuilding. Carter not likely to stay. They probably are willing to trade him for very few assets. How about get a Houston big three: Yao + Tmac + Carter? I know it is only a dream (salary), but it won't hurt to just imagine.
I'm going to go ahead and let you know that I am giving this one star. EDIT: it was when the post above was it's own thread
Obviously New Jersey wants to clear the cap space to make run at Leborn James, so how about the rockets send them a bunch of expiring contracts and match the salary of Vince Carter.... Can it be done?? btw.. we do need to keep shane battier still right??
You only need 12 on the active roster and 9 on the rotation. So it does not hurt to give up someone like Bobby Jackson, etc. Again, this is day dreaming..
how come i didnt see this trade on main page? (i dont have posting new thread privileges yet) Houston trading 25th pick and luther head for 18th pick, and will use it to get Courtney Lee http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2008-06-27/03023749407.shtml obviously chinese sources arent that reliable but according to this article they actually sourced it from HoopsWorld.
