yeah his 3 pt% is below 10% this season...thats astonishing for someone who is a PG.

But I think the Rockets really need a pass-first PG, and Andre Miller is that PG would fit us nicely.

Rondo can't shoot 3's, and Boston is still doing pretty good...

But Andre Miller can score...and he can pass...

Yes but Celtics have Pierce, Allen,

If we wanna have Miller first we need to replace Battier for an offensive thread

Billups is a right move for the rockets. Not only because he is a pg, which is the position the rockets need to improve the most, but, more importantly, Billups has championship experience. Yao, Tmac, Battier and Scola all don't even have the experience to pass the 1st round. I hope Morey can get it done.

billups is good but hes getting old, we need Tj or calderon if we give up head and bjax we might get one of them and the good thing is both of them are young, i dont care which of the 2 we get but i rather go for calderon cuz hes not injury prone like tj

Portland are loaded at the 2/3 and with young players. McMillan wants to add another vet like James Jones suggesting it's likely they'll re-sign Jones as Jones has indicated he'd like to stay there.

Roy isn't going to leave much at SG. So Webster, Outlaw, Jones, and Fernandez will likely compete for minutes at SF.

LaFrentz (exp) + Jack (exp) + draft rights to Fernandez and Freeland + 13th pick
    for
    Battier + Jackson (exp) + Head (exp) + Brooks + 25th pick

The Rockets would be throwing the dice in this trade. They give up 3 main rotation guys for 1 in Jack.

    Blake, Jackson, Brooks, Rodriguez
    Roy, Jones, Head
    Battier, Webster, Outlaw,
    Aldridge, Frye, McRoberts (team option)
    Oden, Pryzbilla
    +25th pick

    Alston, Jack, Francis
    Fernandez, (vacant), (vacant)
McGrady, Harris (non-guaranteed), Novak (team option)
    Scola, Landry, Woods (non-guaranteed)
    Yao, Hayes, LaFrentz
    +13th pick

    Hooroo,

I've been thinking something along those lines for awhile now. I guess the main thing is, How much better is each team in the process?

But I'd rather rebuild a bit with Fernandez and maybe use the #13 on Rush or even Batum or whomever is worth the pick (neither projects to go that high but I think a lot of draft boards are sleeping on those guys).

And has Lafrentz declared his intention not to opt out? Obviously he won't---ain't no one gonna pay him nuthin' on the open market---but he has to do so before any such trade can be made.

Here's a rumor out there that got me to thinking; Would we be interested, who would we give up, and who would we draft.

-The Indiana Pacers are trying to dangle the #11 pick in hopes of being able to package it with one of their ugly contracts (preferably Jermaine O’Neal). There is talk out of O’Neal’s camp that he anticipates being trade to Cleveland at some point this summer, possibly in a deal involving expiring contracts such as Wally Szczerbiak and Eric Snow. The Pacers don’t want to give O’Neal away for nothing, but the temptation of shedding his 23 million dollar contract from their cap figure (giving them substantial cap space to work with in July of 2009) may be too great to pass up.

Now I think O'Neal would be great in our system. With him as a backup to Yao, maybe both would help each other stay healthy. What a one-two tandem. Also, Jermaine could slide down and play Power Forward next to Ming. I'd love to see that front line! Maybe we could use Brooks/Hayes/Jackson to accomplish this.

With that being done, who would we take with the number 11 pick? Danilo Gallinari, Joe Alexander (SG/SF), Chase Budinger (SG), Nicolas Batum(SG/SM), Anthony Randolph(SF), or Donte Greene(SF). I like any of these to back up
T-Mac or Battier. I think they would all pay dividends in Rick's system, and will be great in years to come. Sort of fill-in this window that Yao and T-Mac have left, and take us many years down the road like that damn team down
    I-10 that I can't stand!

    Any thoughts?

    Brooks = 1 million, Hayes = 1.7 million, Jackson = 6 million; 8.7 million =/= 21 million.

It's almost financially impossible for a team to be able to spend 57 million on 3 players; McGrady 21 million, O Neil 21 million, Yao 15 million.

That would be great but there is no way in hell the Pacers will give up Oneal for brooks, Hayes and jackson, not only that but lose their 11th overall pick? Keep thinking bud!

As the Rockets embark on yet another offseason feeling as though they are a couple of moves from being a legit title contender, I want to make my case for what they should do to take the proverbial next step.

Nothing I propose is delusional or completely one-sided. The Celtics got to the Finals by making big moves in the offseason involving stars (KG and Jesus) and then filling out the roster with cheap, veteran role-players (Sam Cassell and PJ Brown).
The Lakers got there by stealing Gasol from the Memphis firesale. I know it seems less likely now we can steal Miller from them, so more creativity may be in order to get these deals done than what I'm proposing, but it's the end result that matters.

    1
    Trade McGrady
    For
    Pistons Rasheed Wallace, Rip Hamilton

I have heard rumors of this deal, and if it is true, I would do it in a heartbeat. The Pistons seem in need of a change and, much like Dallas and Phoenix last year, they may get desperate as they see their 'window' closing and be more willing to make a deal for a 'superstar' to get them over the Conference Finals hump.

For us, I think it is a no-brainer. The only reservation I have is the dramatic aging Rasheed showed this year. It could have been a situation like Tejada was in last year where he just needed a change. Or it could be another Shaq situation where everyone thinks he will respond to a change, but he has nothing left physically.
I'm betting that he has another 2-3 years left in him, which is why I feel his volatile attitude is worth the risk. Pairing him as a weakside defender and shooter next to Yao seems ideal to what this team needs at PF.
Plus it makes Scola a natural as the primary backup at both 4 and 5.

Although no McGrady on offense, Rip can still get you 18 PPG.
He's a poor man's Reggie Miller, and his deadly midrange game makes up for his lack of 3pt range.
And unlike Tmac, you know he will show up to play every night.

This deal would provide two veteran complementary stars to surround Yao who have the championship experience this team desperately lacks. Both should have at least 2-3 more years before age completely erodes their skills.
I think adding their consistent, steady, reliable contributions more than compensates for losing McGrady's erratic but often-amazing brilliance.

    2
    Trade Francis, Jackson
    For
    Grizzlies Mike Miller

I think this deal should be top priority whether or not any deal involving McGrady is made.
Memphis may not be so hot to sell off Miller for expiring deals, but with Bobby Jackson and Francis we have the contracts to match his $9M salary. Throw in a Carl Landry, Luther Head, Aaron Brooks or future first-rounders and the Grizzlies may still be able to save enough face to get this deal done.

This team really needs somebody besides Tmac (or Rip) who can create on the perimeter, and Miller can do that.
In addition, he's a great shooter, good ball-handler, and he has the size to be the primary backup to Shane at SF and McGrady/Hamilton at SG.
And if needed, he can also step in as a starter at both spots.

    3
    Split Mid-Level Exception
Half to Kurt Thomas/PJ Brown or other backup C
Half to Sam Cassel/Bobby Jackson or other backup PG

The Rockets need another true C to back up Yao other than Deke. He is too fragile now to expect 80 starts, and Deke just can't cut it as a starter. Scola can play the 5 in short spurts, but he does not have the size to play extended minutes there should Yao get hurt.

Getting a veteran like Kurt or PJ would bring toughness, experience and size that no other backup big men on the roster have. This becomes even more critical if Landry is involved in a deal for Miller or someone else.

The second part is getting a veteran backup PG. If Bobby stays put, this is a moot point. But if he gets dealt for Miller or someone else, this is a huge need. All they need is a steady pro who can hit open jumpers and not turn the ball over for 10-16 minutes per game. Whether that's Bobby or Sam or someone else, it doesn't matter as long as they aren't counting on Aaron Brooks as the primary backup.

    4
Use 1st-rounder on CDR/Danny Green or other backup swingman

Even if they added Miller as a backup here, they still need a young player to develop at the wing positions with some size.
If Chris Douglas-Roberts some how slips to them I would be ecstatic.
But even if it's Green from UNC or someone else, they need somebody to take Luther's place. He has regressed to the point he may get cut if he's not moved.

This is your new depth chart:
    *with MPG

    C
    Yao 32
    K Thomas 6
    Deke 0

    PF
    Sheed 32
    Scola 22
    Landry/Hayes 4

    SF
    Battier 34
    MMiller 24
    Novak 0

    SG
    Rip 30
    CDR 8

    PG
    Alston 28
    Sam 16
    Brooks 4

I think this plan is realistic and possible. It all depends on what the Pistons want to do.
I would make the other moves regardless of what happens with Tracy.
I am not hell-bent on trading McGrady as many are, and I do not expect him to be moved, but if this deal ever becomes available I think it is too good to pass up.

The frontcourt goes from average to great by adding Wallace. With Yao in the post, the team needs spacing and shooting next to him, and Sheed can certainly do that.
On defense, he has the size to match up with bigger players, but also the versatility to guard the athletic big men who destroy us (hello Carlos Boozer).
He can be a headcase, but he has shown he can keep it together for a title run before.
Getting him also allows Scola to become the energy big man off the bench he is best-suited to be.

For the backcourt, getting Rip and Miller should be enough to replace McGrady's points, but the easy looks he gets others might be harder to replace.
At this point he is so unpredictable and fragile that pairing him with Yao (another injury-prone star) again seems futile.
Betting on the heavens to align so that both Yao and McGrady can stay healthy long enough for a title run seems like trying to catch lightning in a bottle.

I am not in favor of getting rid of Tracy at all costs, but I would be willing to take a chance on a move like this.
Even if he stays, the Rockets HAVE to find a C and SG who can effectively fill in if Yao or Tmac get hurt.
The Rockets just cannot put all their eggs in Yao and Tracy's baskets again.

Isn't the definition of insanity doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result?

I wouldn't do this trade if I am the Rockets GM. Rip Hamilton sounds good. But the problem is the Rasheed Wallace part. Out of the two scenarios you suggested, I think this guy is much like the Shaq scenario. This guy is over the hill and aging rapidly, as can be seen through his performances this season. He now shoots a lot more 3's as opposed to posting up, so he is becoming softer with age. Scola cannot shoot long range so therefore Scola will drive and post up with opposing PF's, which is something we would value a lot instead of soft jumpers all day. So this leaves the deal looking like T-Mac for Rip Hamilton and an aging player who will has little gas left after a couple of years? No thanks. No Battier/Gay - like deals any more. We still have another future to look forward to when Yao gets in his early 30's.

I'd love this deal! But you said Memphis are trying to save face? No way they'd do without getting some young talent back. We probably need to add Chuck Hayes and next year's first rounder.(seeing they want a PF). Even then its still sounds acceptable.

Who is this Danny Green dude?...

    CDR sounds good.

Well, Raef has to choose between $12 million or the vet's minimum. He mightn't be  for too long on that one.

Different class of players and stages of development when they entered the NBA. Fernandez has 3 MVP titles and is the captain of his current team. Then again one could say he could adapt to be a NBA-starter as quickly or quicker than Scola.

Jack improves the Rockets depth at PG and could challenge Alston for the starter role. Rockets need more offense. Fernandez either brings it or if he doesn't Battier wasn't going to anyway.

Battier is a clear upgrade at SF over anyone they have..

I think the Rockets need to pay extra close attention to this series between the Lakers and Celtics. To me this series is clearly showing that even if you have a good big man (Gasol) and a good guard (Kobe), along with viable bench, it's not enough to win!! This is why, I'm proposing the trade of Michael Redd. It would give us a roster compariable to the Celtics, even better. Plus, Yao, T-Mac, and Redd are all younger than the big three of Boston. In addition, what is this NEWS ABOUT LANDRY WANTING A 3 YR/ $25 - $30 MILLION DEAL????? check out www.hoopshype.com

Every team in the league knows their limitations and I think nobody wants to give anything of value for them despite their expiring contract status.

Well we could take a bad contract off them, so if we do that we'll be able to get someone of value to our team.

Jackson + Head equal around 7M while a bad contract like Cardinal is around 6M,so if we do want a better player along with taking a bad contract it's going to cost us a good player as well.

    Sign Carl for full MLE
    Landry
    Battier
    Brooks
    Jackson
    Head
    swap 2nd picks
    fut 2nd

    For

    O'neal
    Foster
    11th pick
    swap 2nd picks

They get rid of O'neals contract and get two exciting prospects in Brooks and Landry. They have had reported interest in Head (for Diogu) and Battier will give them a strong 3, thus moving Granger to the 2 where his size is deadly.

We get O'neal and go for gold or bust with another injured star prospect. We get the 11th pick and hopefully get one of the solid sg prospects i.e. Mayo or Gordon. With our pick we take Chalmers and with the 2nd round pick we nab Walker. This is a draft day deal contingent on whether we get who we want at 11. The cool thing is O'neal can slide into the 5 and Scola becomes our energy guy off the bench like a big Manu. We also have Foster to spell Yao for a few.

    Yao O'neal Foster Deke
    O'neal Scola Hayes
    Tmac Harris Novak
    Gordon Tmac Walker
    Chalmers Alston Francis
