Young guys should get their shots, but Olynyk would be taking a backseat anyways to Piston's young guys: Cade and company. In BOS and MIA, he also wasn't the focus before, so I don't think he has an issue adapting to what the team needs. He kinda had to be the system in Rocket games out of necessity, because at times, Rockets offense really stagnated and players were lost.
The length of his contract isn't an issue as unlike with Wall's contract, this one is very tradeable.
Honestly the best part of Olynyk's game was knowing where to be on offense without the ball. He knew when to cut, how to get open and how to keep proper spacing and how to roll or pop from setting a screen. Wood unfortunately was bad at that. Olynyk's off ball smarts would probably actually help KPJ and Green by giving them easy assists.
My assessment: No one is THAT annoyed with the Theis signing that they start a thread about it. They are actually just trying to get the attention that they were denied as a child.
Some people complained about PJ Tucker's MLE signing as well. There are always complainers, even for minimum signings.
I like Olynyk a lot, but some of you are looking at this the wrong way. Why would you want vets to take more shots away from the rookies we just drafted? Theis is low usage and plays good defense. He is an excellent screener which will help KPJ and Jalen out a lot. We are not trying for the playoffs this year or next year (unless our rookies all become all-star level). Stone has said many times that his goal is to get vets that will help out the rookies. We already have EG and Wall taking minutes and shots away from rookies. We don't need Olynyk to do so either
Theis can help out Wood and Sengun on the boards and on defense. Olynyk's passing , and shooting will be missed. Wood and KPJ will have to make up that difference.
Hard for a guy to be responsible for a 72-game outcome when he is only with the team for 27 games. And he put up 19/8.4/4.1 in those 27 games. I swear, some of these posts are just too stupid
Yes, he can. It will take him time to get adjusted. There is no hurry, this is our developmental year.
People whining about 6'8" Thies like it even matters. Folks, the Rockets are in the lottery the next 2 years. They will cash in on those 2 lottery picks, have 2023 cap room then profit. Just sit back and watch the progress of the team.
