Are you this stupid? Using this logic, I suppose we should waive any inconvient fee. Should they not have to have car insurance? Or Valid registration or inspection stickers? All of these cost hundreds of dollars a year.

This is moronic. You have to renew an ID card or license every 6 years. It costs $16 dollars, or less than 3 bucks a year. Are y'all really trying to justify $3 a year as a burden?

    Such a stupid argument.

Just because someone disagrees with you does not make them "stupid" or "moronic".

And yes, for many families an outlay of $16.00 is a burden. Especially considering the reasoning behind passing a stupid moronic law like a universal voter ID card.

And what if that family is a poor extended family with grandpa, grandma, wife, husband and one voting age child in the house. Suddenly that cost is eighty dollars.

And finally, I love how these cards just print themselves and this paperwork does not require any costs to process. And there is no costs associated with maintenance of such a system or with auditing such a system. It all just happens in this wonderful Big Government Conservative vacuum where the consequences of stupid moronic actions and laws do not matter.

Nearly 1/3 of counties don't issue IDs? That seems ridiculous. I'd hate to get my driver's license.

As is often the case. Being young or not having much experience outside the relative comfort of the upper, or at least vanishing securely middle class, does not provide the perspective needed to see the reality for others.

Many people can't get driver's licenses for various reasons. Disabilites or unable to pass for various reasons. Another big reason is they have outstanding traffic tickets and will be arrested at the DPS etc.

Hopefully you don't feel that people with outstanding traffice tickets should be prevented from voting. Though you seem to be pretty cavalier about making it hard for people in West TX to vote.

Though the cynical voter suppression tactics of conservatives are maddening, I do think it is encouraging that conservatives do realize that they would lose more elections if they can't make it hard to vote.

It is $2.67 per year for a person. All of your arguments stating this is too much is absolutely ridiculous.

Voting is a constitutional right. Owning a car isn't.

My argument has several points -

The cost of the card to the citizen is not the only costs that the citizens will pay. The real cost to the citizen is the price of the card, the price of labor involved with processing, manufacturing, distribution and oversight.

What is ridiculous is you deciding that the poorer citizens in this country can buy their National Socialized Registration Card on payment plans spread out over six years.

It also fails to fix a problem that does not exist in the first place.

This voter ID TAX is not the way to correct the problems that do exist. Disenfranchising 7% of the legitimate voting population in a misguided and unsuccessful attempt to correct the less than 1% of legitimate problem voters.

I am suggesting there are better ways to tackle the problems that do exist while you seem to be making the ridiculous statement that a national ID card is the *only* way to move forward.

Voting is a Constitutional right for its citizens. Not illegals; not dead folk; not felons.

BTW, would you be OK with this if ID cards were available for free?

There's no evidence of dead people voting. And the illegals & felons that vote won't be stopped by an ID card - because there was never any question about their ID.

The poorest in this Country are already being supplemented, and I couldn't care less if they have to use $2.67 of that a year for a photo ID.

But that is me. Fact is that FREE ID cards have been discussed. Are you good with that?

What part doesn't make sense? The point of voter ID laws is to make sure that the person voting is who they say they are. These felons and illegals weren't claiming to be anyone else - so having a photo ID would have just confirmed that.

They were allowed to vote because there were problems in the registration process that allowed them to become registered voters. Voter ID laws and registration fraud laws do nothing for this problem.

You're still trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

No - as for the previously stated reasons.

In addition to the previously stated issues, the largest problems concerning voter fraud have been with absentee voters. How does your proposed voter ID card address this issue?

The truth is that the poorest in this country are supplementing you.

They pick your food, they cook your food and they clean up after you. While I hate to disagree with such a Christian perspective that we should care less for the poor I believe that there are good poor people in the world and that worth is not measured by how much money you have in your pockets.

I would be OK with it if ID cards were both free and easy for legitimate voters to acquire. Of course, then they wouldn't fulfill the primary requirement for the Republicans pushing those measures...

I think anything that discourages people from voting is generally a bad thing and I havent seen any evidence that says dead people and illegals are voting so it sounds like the typical conservative red herring to me. I'd be fine with free ID cards but as has been mentioned, a lot of people live quite far away from from a location where they can get an ID and the poor and elderly would have trouble with that.

What is this nonsense about no evidence of voter fraud? Obviously there are hundreds of documented cases that have been posted here ad nauseum. There is evidence. But the people saying that there is no evidence are really trying to dodge the bigger issue, which is this:

THERE IS A VULNERABILITY IN THE VOTING PROCESS.

The fact of the matter is that people can round up names of people who don't plan to vote, and they can then go vote in their place. The way to safeguard against this is to have Voter ID. When you consider how competitive elections are all around the country, a mere handful of votes can have meaningful impacts. How can you NOT do everything you can to ensure the integrity of the process? And this cuts both ways -- obviously we think of unscrupulous, inner city Democrats as having the weakest moral code and being the most eager to try to game the system, but guess what Dems, it can happen against you as well!

This vulnerability must be eliminated. One person, one vote. Period.
